Back to school shopping, part 2
The back-to-school post earlier today got me in a shopping frame of mind. Since we're potentially throwing away all of the educational benefits of school in favor of the entertainment benefits, I figured money is no object. After all, what's more important than having the best HDTV system in the dorm, right?Enter the Niveus Media Center Denali Edition at $6,300, or roughly what a one-year meal plan at college will run you. The combination of dual analog tuners and a single HDTV tuner practically guarantee that your less-than-studious offspring won't attend a single class. If by chance they do attend, or if they just need a bathroom break, the 800GB hard drive will capture hundreds of hours in analog programming or a cool 80 hours of HDTV. Word of warning: HDTV set not included.
I know there's a student out there with the Niveus, there just has to be! If there is (and you know who you are), shoot us a pic of your dorm set-up. We're expecting to see no less than 50 of your closest dorm-mates all crammed into that tiny, overpriced room too.

This one is a great system, much more than Tivo in steriods. Though i'm still hunting for the true equivalent with at about $1000 a Firewire or DVI or Comopnent Input / output that can be inserted into an HD sourcepath, since in most cases ( like Adelphia cable ) the user is stuck with the Set-top digital tuner anyhow. When the Media Center system stops trying to take over my world and instead becomes a proper part of it, then I will be very happy.
