Worst show you've watched just because it was HD
This is a bit of a spin on our last two questions. We've asked you what shows you want to see in HD and we got some good responses. We then asked for your favorite shows that are already in HD and you responded. Well, it's time to hide your pride and come clean. Don't be shy on this one! What terrible, awful show(s) have you watched in HDTV simply because they're in HDTV?
Just to show you I've got nothing to hide, I'll put myself out there first. I admit to watching a single episode of "The Young and the Restless", but it was a one time deal and I promised never to watch it again! Then again, my two cats are named "Progressive" and "Interlaced", so I'm sure you're not surprised. Anyway, share your secret HDTV "bombs" in our comments.

Well they show HD reruns of Andy Richter Controls the Universe on HDNET (at least they used to...I ONLY WATCHED ONCE I SWEAR!!!)
I like them all.. but i must say the shows about devastation and poverty, 3rd world strife, it really gets to me, sticks in my mind since the details are so complete.
I've watched a bunch of PBS shows in HD. Probably the worst is a show about how to plant flower gardens. While it doesn't sound like too bad of a show for some, I'm an 18 year old guy.
Also, I even once watched ::bites lip:: a Yellowcard concert on InHD. It was terrible.
Some female body building competition, the first thing I ever saw in HD right after getting my projector and set top box hooked up.
Any CBS sitcom.
The OC, Stacked, The inside
Any CBS sitcom.
What, no love for The OC? What a shame....
I hate to admit it but I watched the NBC 2005 4th of July special just because it was in HD. I am embarrassed not only for myself, but especially for Mariah Carey and with her lipsynching and her obviously painted-on airbrushed "abs". It was like when people slow down for an accident out of morbid curiosity. I just wanted to see how fake it all looked. Fake singing and fake abs...all glaringly evident. Sigh... NBC-Universal, shame on you for subjecting America for this! HD reveals all. "Diet and exercise" Mariah, "diet and exercise"
"The Fly 2"
it was on INHD2 this weekend..... i was glued to it well passed 1 am.
"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." Any show. Ever. The first show I tuned in to see in HD and then tuned right out again. What a perfect example of how just being in HD doesn't make a show better.
When, oh when, will David Letterman be in HD?
A taco-eating contest. Yes, a taco-eating contest. On INHD. I felt really dirty.
ugh- it has to be a three way tie between that same Yellowcard concert mentioned above, Leno, or the female bodybuilder championship.
Why, why, WHY the obsession with HDTV? I must be part of the 0.005% of the population that doesn't give a pair of dingo's kindneys about it. Sure, it'd be nice to have if it were free, but it's not. Far from it. I just don't get it. Is it techno-lust? I ask because when I hear people wishing for a show such as Letterman in HD, I can't help thinking people aren't being rational about this. What the hell could a show like Letterman possibly gain from HD? Nothing! It's a talk show, for God's sake. What's next? South Park in HD? Jeez.
And before you ask, I have very good eyesight (20/15), I just think SD is fine. Maybe I just don't have a big enough TV. I dunno.
I think the reason I'd like to see Letterman in HD is because the writers on that show can be relied upon to have fun with the medium. In the same way that they amuse us by throwing things off buildings, you can bet that they'll exploit HD in such a way that the HD elite will have their bubble burst.
Yeah, a lot of the time HD is not much of a plus, I mean, what's the point of POKER in HD? Nature shows? Fantastic.
Oh, and I hate to contradict, but HD *is* free. It's broadcast over the air from local stations.
It's like saying that CBS isn't free. Sure, you might pay for cable, but you're paying for something that you can get free. Same with HD -- at least, network HD.
Britney Spears concert
I am surprised that I have not yet seen the show "Sunrise Earth" mentioned on this blog. This is one of the oddest shows ever. All it is for 1/2 hour is 3-4 scenes of pretty places at sunrise. I always feel like I am watching a train wreck when this show comes on. Nothing is going on, it's just a lake with some mountains behind it, or some moose in the forest. Odd, yet peaceful and wonderful in HD.

What I meant by HDTV not being free is that an HD capable TV is a lot more expensive than a standard one, not to mention that we all already own a TV, so the move to HD implies the purchase of a new and costly HD set.
And yeah, I guess nature shows and the like do benefit from HD, but I still wouldn't pay extra for it. And I still don't get what Letterman could gain from HD.
Erik,
Personally, I feel as though every program benefits from a move to HD. Even talk shows, how-to shows, and shopping channels. I frequently find myself staring at the details in the "bottom-line" type scrolling bars and other graphics. I have seen the analogy made that moving from SD to HD is similar to moving from black and white to color. I think that the argument could be made that Letterman would look just as good in black and white as it would in color, no? And black and white TVs are cheaper than color TVs, but I don't imagine that you own a color TV? I understand what you are saying from a logical standpoint, but I think that one would have to see it in someone else's home to understand the difference, perhaps.
Erik,
For someone who "doesn't give a pair of dingo's kindneys about it," you seemed to have found the site interesting enough to read the article. Would you give a pair of dingo's ears, or eyes?
Why "JOEY" of course! It sure looked great. Made me want to turn off the sound though.
ANYTHING on INHD counts, right?
