Poll: Is your HDTV keeping you from the movie theaters?
Hollywood seems worried and I think they should be. Movie attendance is down 11% this year compared with 2004, and there are no signs of a trend reversal. First run movies have to compete with all of the great home theater gear and special edition DVDs we just keep buying. Combine that with high ticket prices and you've got a problem in "Tinseltown."
As a result, I haven't seen a movie in the theater since "E.T." Hey, what was the name of the cute little girl in the movie, Drew something-or-other? I wonder what she's up to now....anyway, let us know if your HDTV gear is a factor in your movie theater attendance with the poll below.

No, the bad movies are.
This is so true. I for one have wanted less and less to go to the theater because of HD broadcastings and the great surround sound systems out there. The last one I did go and see, I will happily admit, was "Charlie and the Chocolete Factory."
I watch a lot more at home but I still visit the theater quite a lot. Mainly it's a social outting for me and my friends. There's just something about getting all together to go to the theater. Such as; watching the latest Star Wars films with friends in a packed movie theater on the opening day. When you visit the theater it's more of an event than just tossing something in the dvd player/laserdisc player/16mm projector.
If they released DVDs near the same time they hit the theater I imagine I would watch them at home instead. We would just have more movie nights at my house instead of the theater. How about charge $10 more for each DVD to get it at the same time as it hits the theater? That would work for me.
