Toshiba doin' it big with SED

My mom always told me that if I was going to do something, do it right. Apparently Toshiba has the same idea with SED 'cause the first production models start at 50-inches. Moreover, they will support 1080p right away. This is a sure sign that the technology behind SED is sound and they are ready for the mass market. Don't bring EDTV to the masses first, and then upgrade them to 720p, and then finally 1080p. No, Toshiba is doing it big with 50-inches and 1080p.
I was planning to get a Panasonic 37-inch plasma early next year, but maybe not...

Re; Toshiba's SED
In reference to the earlier qustions:
SED is a phosphor on glass system illuminated by electrons so no there won't be the problem of dead pixels.
Burn in will only be an issue if you are unfortunate enough to leave a static image on your screen 24 hours a day for about 1 week (maybe longer)
Make no mistake SED is the biggest breakthrough in imaging technology since the invention of the electron gun. Once people see it in the flesh they'll forget all about plasma / LCD. Anyone contemplating spending big money on LCD/ plasma/ rear projection should hold off till the arrival of SED
I am excited about the technology breakthrough, CRT quality picture in narrow depth. Popping down more than $3,000 for HDTV 50inch tv is no small thing. So if I were in the market for new HD tv, I would take the wait to get the roll out of the SED product. It will probable take about 2 years, that will be summer 2008 for the price to be affordable for the masses, under $10,k. The picture quality is exceptional, and the wait will warrant it. As an early adopter I still have a Toshiba HD 42 inch that works great, going 4 years. Ihave used their laptop ( three in my household) and if the value and performance stays the same, then the competition will be choking on the dust that SED inc will throw their way. Canon and Toshiba, wonder marriage of technology. The original intentions by SED is to produce the monitors for the high end commercial market, that may cause the price to stay higher longer than the traditional rate of decline seem with most popular electronics. Remember color tv introduction. Hang on for the ride.
Matt,
I was also planning on getting a plasma this upcoming year (probably a 42"-50" one...prob. from Panasonic). Hell, the original plan was to get something closer to Christmas THIS year.
A couple things have changed my view on this so far, the developement of SED being one of them. I am EAGER to see what Toshiba can produce. IF their first crop can show all this good stuff that is to be expected, then I will take my sweet time buying a set...however impatient I become. Also, Canon is #1 in my books for cameras - I love their stuff, their features and their quality and I hope that it translates to the SED technology as well.
Second, I really like plasmas and when I saw the specs on the Panny 65" 1080p monster that is coming out later this year, my jaw hit the floor. Then I saw the price...under 10k. You figure with the rate of price attrition that PDPs are going through and with a smaller version sure to be offer, by the end of next year, you could probably pull up a 50" 1080p PDP with HDMI inputs and the works for a very reasonable price.
Both of these have kept me from taking the plunge now...but man is it ever hard to resist the siren song of HDTV.
I'm really looking forward to this technology. I'm currently using a 38" Loewes Aconda HDTV CRT set.
Besides pricing the things I'd eager to learn about is whether these will suffer from any sort of screen burn in and whether we will still have stuck/dead pixel issues.
I guess only time will tell.
