Matt,
I was also planning on getting a plasma this upcoming year (probably a 42"-50" one...prob. from Panasonic). Hell, the original plan was to get something closer to Christmas THIS year.
A couple things have changed my view on this so far, the developement of SED being one of them. I am EAGER to see what Toshiba can produce. IF their first crop can show all this good stuff that is to be expected, then I will take my sweet time buying a set...however impatient I become. Also, Canon is #1 in my books for cameras - I love their stuff, their features and their quality and I hope that it translates to the SED technology as well.
Second, I really like plasmas and when I saw the specs on the Panny 65" 1080p monster that is coming out later this year, my jaw hit the floor. Then I saw the price...under 10k. You figure with the rate of price attrition that PDPs are going through and with a smaller version sure to be offer, by the end of next year, you could probably pull up a 50" 1080p PDP with HDMI inputs and the works for a very reasonable price.
Both of these have kept me from taking the plunge now...but man is it ever hard to resist the siren song of HDTV.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
