Now that's what I'm talking about...low power plasmas
What a great step forward for plasma. Panasonic, Hitachi, and Pioneer
just developed a process to dramatically reduce power consumption in television sets. This
should help in the great battle for flat panels as LCDs have always
claimed the title of "low power consumption." In fact the two companies
claim that they can cut the power usage in half out of a standard PDP.Now if they can cut the price of plasmas in half...

I never really understood the whole power consumption thing between LCD's and Plasma's. I mean, as far as i'm concerned, i plug my components into my HTS7000, and presto, it works. I mean, in real dollars, how much money does one save with a lower consumption television?
Adam,
Here's a pretty good thread that puts it into more normal parameters based on a 42" plasma. Some of it is a little hard to understand (at least for me) but the end result was pretty interesting - it seems to be akin to using a 100 watt light bulb.

He also compared it to a 25-year old 25" CRT, which the plasma beat (i.e. used less power) in terms or power consumption.
