1080p DVD upconverter under $250?
Great googly-moogly! How did we miss this 1080p DVD upconverter
from available from Neodigits? Not that we have a 1080p set just sitting around
begging for one of these, but still this gets us all "tingly" inside.
Apparently, the 1080p output is currently supported via component
video, although Neodigits indicates 1080p support over HDMI via this
firmware upgrade. The NeuNeo HVD 2085 sells for $245, which does not include any digital cables; still not a bad deal if it delivers as advertised!Read [via 1080p Whip and HDBlog]

This is an excellent dvd player. Unfortunately, the folks at the AVS forum did not have access to a set that accepted a 1080p input over hdmi. Now that those sets are available, you can see the value of this player. So, the comment above that 720p or 480p are as good as it gets are just plain wrong and misinformed. You need to match your sets native resolution. For those of use fortunate enough to have sets that accept 1080p over hdmi, this player is just the ticket.
If you still have an old-school set, you are better off sticking with your old-school dvd player.

This player has received less than stellar reviews from those who have either owned it, or spent time with it. Sure, upconverting to 1080p is a nice gimmick, but the fact remains, a top notch dvd player upconverting to 720p (Denon dvd-5910) or even a top notch player that plays at 480p (panny dvd-rp82) is gonna be as good as it gets for the time being...unless of course you own a d-vhs player which is the top dog for the moment!
derrick - that's funny. I was going to post a link to that same thread on AVS.
Yeah. Also, isn't it odd to buy a product from a mfg and then dl and upgrade the firmware, that is available to them before they ship?
New one on me.
My local Costco is offering a Toshiba up-converting DVD player for under $80 including an HDMI cable.. has anyone tested this?
I have the Neuneo 2085 for several weeks now and I am very content. Picture quality on my Panasonic AE300 projector is via 1080i over component much better than before from my Pioneer A656 DVD Player. Build quality is not so good, but it is working without flaws. The Neuneo has 2 nice features: In upconverts via component and it plays 720p HD-DVDs from China, so called HVDs. I have "Winged Migration", a bird documentary, and picture resolution is stunning, much better than any DVD.
