DIY, Akimbo marries Windows Media Center
The two went down the aisle yesterday, so if you have a Windows Media Center PC, you can grab a 30 day free trial now.
If you keep the service, you're looking at a monthly "wedding gift" of
$9.99 to support the happy couple. In case you forgot, Akimbo
currently uses broadband to send content to your television.Akimbo doesn't provide any high-def content just yet, but there was talk in August of high-definition capabilities in a future iteration. In fact, we even got a comment on this topic from the father of the bride, Josh Goldman of Akimbo. Could the first baby from this marriage be some HDTV content? Sounds like marriage made in heaven to me; I say the first kid's name is "Progressive."

Aikimbo is intriguing, especially on a MPC. Yet another thing I could do with a MPC box, if I can just convince my wife to let me build one (GOTS to record HDTV, of course).
So who's got a MPC and is ready to "volunteer" to get Aikimbo and check it out for us?
Hi Kevin, nice post... I'm a huge HD fan myself and have been a big advocate of Akimbo's download model being the best way to deliver HD content today. And I'll stop being non-commital on the topic... this is a good place to make it known. Yes, AkimboHD is coming and works right now on current HD-capable MCE devices. We're showing AkimboHD demos now to some press and partners. We haven't offically "announced" it or launched it simply because we don't want to launch with just a few demo titles. We're signing HD content deals now so that when AkimboHD launches there will be some good content there.
It looks great of course... You have a standing invite to come see it here in our offices if you're in the area.

Does "HD Capable MCE devices" include the xbox 360?
I tried out Akimbo tonight on my MCE 2005 box. Honestly, I only found one show I felt I would enjoy watching, which was House on Haunted Hill. Most of the stuff seemed to be pretty old. I think that the interface could work very well, but at the moment the content is lacking. I'll probably be cancelling before the month is out.
