XBox 360 and HDTV FAQ's
Between our recent HDTV buyers guide and our sister site, Joystiq,
I think we've pretty much got the Xbox 360 covered from every angle. If
that's not good enough, however, there's a clean list of HDTV questions
on the new console over at Coldforged
that are worth a read. I scanned the list and think we've hit most of
the topics in some form or another, but hey, what's a little more Xbox
360 buzz, right? Some of the better questions include:
- Will games look terrible on anything but high definition televisions? (No)
- My
HDTV only supports 1080i but I’ve heard that most games are programmed
for 720p. Will I be able to play games in high definition? (Yes)
- Does the Xbox 360 display DVD movies in 720p? (No)

Thanks so much for answering the one question that's been on my mind since I found out my CRT HDTV only supports 1080i! Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou!
The failure to support DVD upscaling is utterly depressing. Here is Porch that can't get out first gear, it's pathetic. I do not understand MS's utter failure in thid department, it's like the original Xbox not supporting progress playback even though the box clearly has the power to do it. WTF? If it did up scale I would replace every dvd player in my house, but they just don't, no reason, no explantion (at one point they where talking about maybe).
Yeah, no HDMI- or DVI-out is kind of disappointing too. The games just look amazing though. Watch some of the high-def quicktime clips on Gametrailers.com though, and it becomes easier to forget about the 360's shortcomings.
