Victoria's Secret Fashion Show faux-pas
UPDATE on 12/6: Show is now listed as high-def!I was scanning ahead on the 14 day programming guide in Windows Media Center and much to my dismay, I see that the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is not in high-def. Before I started sobbing, I went to CBS's site schedule to verify. It's sad but true and probably the worst news we've ever had to break here. Seems to me that this "Victoria" (whom we have no proof actually exists) secretly loves SDTV.
If you must watch it in SD, mark your calendar for Tuesday night next week at 10 p.m. on CBS. Surely, I can't be the only disappointed viewer out there. It's too late for this year, but is anybody interested in petitioning CBS for next year's show? While you chew on that, I have to ask: how many of you are going to watch it anyway?

The models are worried you might see an imperfection...
Wasn't it in HD last year or earlier? I thought I remembered it being in HD with Sting singing music for the show live. Great music but the show featured tons of strobes which just threw the compression into haywire.
My Motorola 6412 on Cox shows that it will be in HD on the guide, while other shows I know not to be in HD on CBS are marked correctly. I'd say we still have a shot of it at least, I'm hoping :-)
Possibly because with all the stuff they wear, in HD you can see nipples and their who-has through the sheer fabrics. In very good detail I might add. Wish I had a D-VHS or HD-DVR to tape it.
Well, neither ABC nor TitanTV said the USC-UCLA game would be in HD, even though it was.
Maybe the same for this?
Alas and alack! Does that mean our fantasies will have to be in soft focus too?
weird comment. your actually worried that you won't be able to count the goosebumbs on their tits or do you just get turned on by starved semi nude women clothed in one of the biggest wastes of material the world has ever seen.
according to my TW cable box, it is in fact in HD. it has the little HDTV logo in the info that all HD shows have, and only HD shows.
any change someone can record this and stick it up a ftp or share somewhere? im in the UK and cant get it? but can watch it in media center?
pm me on temp@delveskeep.net
thx

I can tell you for a fact, that it was posted in HD and CBS has HD masters of it, whether they run it in HD is up to them... and no you can't see any nippels we were very carefull about that.
Well is it...or isn't it? That is a question of earth shattering importance. I'm glad there are no other problem's in the world which require actual attention by intelligent men.
And by the way...most women know that Victoria's Secret is that Victoria is a transvestite...
i'm still trying to decide whether or not this article warrants a space on this site. or the internet. or in life in general.
and then i wonder what this world is coming to, when the issue du jour is if men can enjoy semi-nude women in high definition.
Irene, I agree with you completely, this post sickens me. Instead, lets discuss viewing FULLY nude women in high definition.

It WAS HD, for those that missed it.
Video please
I have a few tasteful screen-caps coming later today.
Why can't I come up with stories like this for MY blog? ...and I want to know who JS is. JS has very good contacts, methinks!
Kev, I can't wait to see the "tasteful" pictures.
I thought it was a stunning broadcast. I was interested to see how the balance between hires content and not showing imperfections would play out. This is a fundamental problem with HD and whoever questioned the importance of discussing such an event ON THE F*CKING HD FORUM OF ALL PLACES needs to find somewhere else to moan. Jesus: where else?! Anyway:
Obviously you can't do this sort of thing live - at least not easily. Couple observations on balancing hires and maintaining the appearance of perfection:
Soft focus filter: This was super obvious: Not sure whether this was done in post or if there was actually a filter on the cameras; don't know enough about tv broadcasting to say. But, I am a photographer and I can tell you soft focus was being used. This allowed the occasional tight shot of the face or other body parts without giving the viewer too much information. Well done. I was at once blown away yet still let wanting to see more.
Editing: Girls with anything but sticks for legs were for the most part not shown from the waist down for longer than a second. You really noticed this with Tyra. Yes, I know some models' contracts don't allow this type of shot but I'd say it went well beyond that due to the resolution of the video. Shots had to be dropped because of too much information: what they would call 'flaws'. In other words they looked mortal which is not acceptable for this type of event.
Technical Merit: A+
Booking Ricky Martin for the show: F-
Does anyone know who did the remix for the song "I Want Candy" that played at this year's show...and where to download it from?
