They are attempting to force Blu-Ray into adding the features and functionality that they want. I am glad they are doing it but I don't buy into the bluff. I hope Blu-Ray doesn't call them on it but instead raises them. We will see if Blu-Ray supports mandatory managed copy. If they don't then why would anyone want to use their Blu-Ray discs in their PC's?

The ultimate Media center contains all your media and doesn't require you to get up when you want to watch a movie. I think that movies are still very much a part of the TV experience (although we watched our first DVDs on WinDVD) and that maybe a Microsoft Vista user can also own a Blu-Ray player and have both.

However, the reason DVDs on computer was a big success is that they were coming standard, and DVD Players (standalone) were still expensive and unsure. However, the Blu-Ray players will be out (and prices not as bad as DVD initially) BEFORE the Blu-Ray Macs, and the Medium itself will beat HD-DVD to the market.

Support Blu-Ray. Rather, they say, HD-DVD is a Trojan horse, rolled into the format war to create advantages in battles yet to be fought — especially against Sony Corp.

Theres some seriouse future planning there. CE buyers will.If Sony hits a home run with ps3 and the software becomes quickly available ms vista will mean little to most. XP didnt make dvd a success, it was a success long before dvd drives were prevalent in pc and 98/2000 ruled desktops. DVD took over as a home video medium as soon as sub $500 stand alone players became prevalent. The pc centric web community forgets the huge combined force the ce makers and buyers are. PC hd users are a small niche at this point. Ask someone where to find hd and they will point to the tv /ht section of the store , not the pc section. PCs are still too complex for most users. A disguised pc box like the ps3 is what people will buy for hd disk just like most get hd content from cable stb , not htpc.

Paul Clancy
