Oh boy! Oh boy! Knight Rider in HD!
Universal HD has my number. They are showing "classic" shows in high definition. Sure HDNet has Hogans Hero's but now Universal HD has Knight Rider. Can you believe it? This
started a few weeks ago and will be shown every Monday through Saturday throughout the day. But the classic programs do
not stop there. Oh no. They also have added Quantum Leap to the lineup.
Now this is what I was talking about a few months back. Networks have a huge library to pull from to provide us with quality HD programing. Sure, it will not be new programs, but at least it will be in high definition. There was a survey recently done that asked what their most missed show was. The "winner:" Star Trek. But don't stop there. On the same list was Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Friends, The X-Files and the A-Team. Can you image the X-Files in HD?
There is a lot of new HD stations on their way and lets hope one of them will be a high definition version of TV Land.
UPDATE: My mistake.I did not know that TNT ran X-FIles in HD but they do!

TNT already runs X-Files in HD. :)
The X-Files is already shown in HD on TNT.
How are all these old shows being shown in HD? Were they shot in HD? If so, at what resolution?
I know that most modern tv shows are shot at 1080p and broadcast in 720p or 1080i. I have always been confused as to what resolution old movies and tv shows have been recorded in.
True,
But X-Files is an upconvert on TNT, not true HD.
At least from what I have seen. Looks terrible.
Those shows were shot in Film (35mm) which mean they can transfer it to HD, just like any Hollywood movie
Ok, I want this channel. How do I get it? And don't tell me "call your local cable or Dish operator" b/c they'll tell me "thanks for your input" and not do a damn thing. Where is it? I currently have Dish Network and while I wouldn't be willing to drop it just to get this channel, I would like to know who's getting this?
And, perhaps off thread, what other HD channels am I not getting that are really out there? I know Comcast has inHD and inHD2, but if I was going to start a campaign to tell Dish to get more channels, what other HD channels are there?
#5, it's far more likely that these "HD" version of these shows are simply taking the SD 4:3 version of the shows, upconverting them and stretching them to fill the 16:9 format of HD. This is what's happening with the older episodes of "Law and Order" on TNT HD. Actually going back to the vault and remastering the 35mm film negatives to produce true HD versions is very costly and time consuming.
Most shows throughout the 80's & 90's were NOT finished on film at all. Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, & Star Trek: Voyager, just to name the Star Trek's. (original star trek series was finished on film & star trek: Enterprise was finished on HD video). Many 80's & 90's shows (and even some current shows) were finshed on plain old SD video. Sorry, but they are never going to look any better on HD.
Kevin B,
DirecTV. They carry Universal HD. I am sure some cable providers do as well; the station is owned by NBC.
Here is the most complete listing of HD stations that I know of.

I watched Knight Rider last night and it looked great. It was in widescreen and didnt look stretched or upconverted. KITT is so dreamy in HD.
They should do Airwolf in HD. That was one of my favorite shows growing up.
I watched Airwolf recently and it's not as cool as I remembered as a kid, but it was still fun.
I was interviewed for an HDTV related article by local media and they wanted a shot of me in front of my HDTV... Knight rider was the best on at the time, but I couldn't bring myself to have David Hasselhof in the picture with me on the front page of the local life section! See my blog for the full story. I gave the HDBeat crew props as a good resource to check out in the interview, and they printed it as such! :)
