DISH Network launches Nashville HD locals
Last week it was Chicago
and this week it's Nashville as DISH launches the Big 4 today in high-def throughout Nashville and the surrounding
areas. For as little as $55 a month, Nashville customers can get 23 High Definition channels and HD locals. The space race is heating up and in another week I am supposed to have my AT9 DIRECTV dish installed so I can check out their HD locals. Of course, I get the locals perfectly via OTA so I'm not in any rush.

Anybody know or have a guess when Salt Lake City will get it's turn for DirecTV or Dish local HD channels?
Does anyone know if the new HD boxes are required to get the locals? I know they are for most of the new HD channels. That's really a pain because i think, from what I was told by my installer, that the satellite has to be changed as well and in my apartment i can't control the satellite.
I really want local HD channels. I almost switched to Charter just for that but switched back to Dish two days later because it was so terrible.
Gary, since the new HD locals are compressed using MPEG-4, yes, you will need new hardware to receive them. The upside is that you'll likely get more HD channels in general with the newer receivers.
That's what i figured. My apartment complex said they may upgrade the dish and stuff soon so hopefully i can upgrade.
