Why can't we have something like this here in the states?

We love Japanese gadgets. Some are wacky and some are just weird, but some are just plain cool. Check out this new cell phone from Vodafone. I am sure you are thinking "oh, another video phone....who cares?" Well my friend, that is not a video on the screen but rather a over-the-air digital broadcast. Thats right, the phone has a digital tuner (one for the Japanese system though) and a FM tuner.

Akihabara News has a video showing off the reception and functions of the phone. Trust me, you want to watch this and it is of course in high-def.

I really think that tech-mavens will jump on the portable DTV tuner devices when US device producers get a clue that digital multicasting is the next battle ground for broadcast television.

I'm not sold that the phone is the right device for the DTV tuner, but hey, its a start!

Creative use of sub channeling will increase the amount of content that is available to the portable DTV device owner, making it a no-fuss way to access quality content on the go.

Does anyone else want this?!?!? If not, why?
