Paramount announces initial HD-DVD titles
Paramount joins the party this week with three less than
stellar titles announced for HD-DVD. This will bring the total number of HD-DVD titles up to seven from four. The
number and quality of titles released till now has to bother any HD-DVD proponent. I think this is especially important
because I believe the format with the most/best content will win. The titles that will be available Tuesday April 25th are Four Brothers, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and U2: Rattle & Hum. I don't know about anyone else, but I am less than excited about these movies. I am surprised however that Paramount is releasing titles five days after they announce them.

I really think they have dropped the ball with the launch titles... I mean, imagine if they had The Matrix, Indiana Jones, Terminator 2, Fight Club, the Godfather, Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, Lord of the Rings, etc etc, all for launch. Shit, I run the fuckbluray.com site (and all its derivatives), and those kind of titles would tempt even ME to go about and partake in this. Instead, we get crap. This is make or break and they're totally F'ing it up. What is the deal?
I dont know whats going on, i checked with a few stores and online stores, no one has tomb raider HD info or even being released on tuesday
I personally would love to see an uncut and uneditied neverendign story 1 & 2 released in HD, that woudl be sweeet
I agree with #1 - release the BIG movies that people really like, and then people will be interested.
I laughed pretty hard when I read this yesterday. It's basically Paramount saying to HD-DVD, "screw you". Though I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same to Bluray. When I visited Paramount a few years ago and talked to them about the lack of DTS titles on their discs they claimed there was no need for it because it didn't sound any better to the average consumer. A few years before that they refused to do anamorphic dvds for the same reason.
So now Paramount releases three crappy HD-DVDs and will evaluate their continuing support of the format based on the sales results of these titles. Don't expect "Titantic" for at least 5 more years with how fast they move.
Wheres the porn?
It's interesting to see how everyone is driving around the country-side to get a hold of movies such as Serenity, Last Samurai and what was that.. oh yea... Phantom of the Opera!?!
With current fuel prices, that adds up to how much?
Now, if it were not for the fact that these are the first available titles on HD-DVD, hardly anybody would bother too much about buying them.
Honestly, I am (trying to) holding out until they come out with Lord of the Rings. That is going to be the deciding factor for me.
But, I have to admit, its pretty easy for me to talk, since I live in Switzerland. So I have to wait another 6 months or so anyway.
Whether this is a better situation to be in than what you are going through, I leave that for you to decide.
I look at it like this, i bought the HD dvd player cause i plan on buying the playstation 3 which does bluray. SO this way i can get both movies, plus as soon as LG releases their duel player, ill get that and dump the HD player to a frind
