This is what we have
been waiting for. Samsung's
LED
powered DLPs. Instead of bulbs that only last 4-6 thousand hours, these HDTVs have light sources that will last
nearly 20,000 hours. Plus, they say that the LED backlighting can produce quicker startup times and more importantly,
better color reproduction. As if the LEDs were enough to make you interested, the DLP is 1080p capable. It seems though
that this new technology got crammed into their old DLP cabinets - like two or three generations old. But anyways, the
HDTV can be found on
froogle
through a number of retailers and start around 2500.
Tears of joy are streaming down my cheeks. I just hope they make a pedestal model; I love the look of those. $2500? I can't believe it!
Did anyone happen to notice that the contrast ratio is 4000:1 as opposed to the 10000:1 contrast ratio on their standard-bulb DLPs?
Also, the product spec sheet on company website shows only 1 HDMI input. Prior reports stated 2

Might want to wait for the new SXRD before you buy...
Yes, please everyone wait for the next SXRD!
I don't want any shortages on this TV. Now I just need to endure the torture of waiting until someone gets it in stock...
Scratch that comment (maybe) The first page of the link above says 2 HDMI, but the last page says one. Lets hope the last page is a typo
This looks killer, but do you think those business at Froogle will actually sell it at $2500 with Free Shipping? I'm thinking about picking one up and joining the HD world (it's about time) but I'm a bit wary.
Is this the best bet in the $2500 range?
Thanks,
SV
the internal Samsung codename of the chassis of the LED DLPs including this one is Constantine. Samsung codenames their dlps off films, example: the pedestal - Robocop
I hope they come out with a 42" version of this tv
I doubt it. Samsung isn't big on the 42" DLPs.
On the Samsung website, HL-S5679W Specs list 1 HDMI and nothing about PIP. Further down in the same document under Features & Key Specs they list 2 HDMI's and a
2 tuner multi PIP. I have been waiting 2 months for one of these TV's. Anyone have a clue when they are going to be available? I'm monitoring local Tweeter retailer
plus TVAUTHORITY & CRUTCHFIELD online.
I've been waiting for the Akai(Led DLP) 52" @ $2199.The early reports on the Samsung 56" were $4199 so I was going with the Akai however since then I've seen the Samsung 56" for $2500 .(preorder)I wonder if the Akai will drop in price.I'd probably go with the Samsung anyway .HP also has one but I haven't seen any recient info. about it .How much longer must we suffer watching our old CRT's with the puny screens .
Trust me guys, you don't want to deal with any site selling this TV for $2500. If you don't believe me check out resellerratings.com and look at their feedback.
I am very happy that Samsung is releasing an LED DLP HDTV that completely eliminates all of the negative things associated with each of the other models of HDTV. LCD and LCOS both have the really annoying "Screen Door Effect" where you see the vertical and horizontal lines in the screen. LCD even has the distracting "Ghosting Effect" when high speed things such as sports and videogames are used on them. DLP HDTV's are almost always the best, because there is no Screen Door Effect or Ghosting Effect. However, 5% of the population has a brain/eye negative ability that forces them to see the "Rainbow Effect" on DLP HDTV's that use a Color Wheel, and sadly, I am one of those people.
The LED DLP HDTV that eliminates the Color Wheel makes it so there is absolutely no Rainbow Effect. So, this means that there will FINALLY be an HDTV that doesn't have any sort of Ghosting Effect, Screendoor Effect, and there will be absolutely no possibility of a Rainbow Effect. I am very thankful for this; however, I am not going to spend all that money on an LED HDTV that only has a contrast ratio of 4000:1 and has only a 3 Line Comb Filter.
If Samsung wants my business, then they will have to release the HL-S5679W with the original 10,000:1 Contrast Ratio that they said it would have at the CES when it received the BEST TV AWARD.
I also want this HDTV to have a 3D Digital Comb Filter instead of the 3-Line Digital Comb Filter that isn't quite as good. Come on Samsung, you can do it! And please, use the same AWESOME design for the system exterior as your HL-S5687W Model; the hidden speaker is awesome! Those stupid looking HUGE speakers on the left and right of the Sony TV's is just plain dumb.
So when does it ship??? We're way past April.
