I do not see any movie studio using any type of ICT for a long time to come.

With that said, I use HDMI connection for my STB and also my DVD player. There is a slight picture difference. But to 99% of the population, they just cant or wont see it. Add to that, the huge handshake problem with different products connected via HDMI. I really wouldnt be surprised if the HDMI format itself fails and slowly dies off. Just my 2 cents.

Jay

Comments on Sony's take on lack of HDMI on the $500 PS3

Won't it be 540p, not 480p, over analog when ICT is turned on?

henning

Comments on Sony's take on lack of HDMI on the $500 PS3

HMDI is not that major a problem as you try to make it out to be. As #1 has said, ICT will not be invoked for years if ever. By that time you will be able to pick up a slimline HDMI BD player at your grocery store.

And, cutting HDMI makes more sense than HDD vs. no HDD that MS pulled on 360. Also, once costs come under control there nothing stopping Sony from only distributing the HMDI version.

The HMDI version is for people who want 1080p right NOW (among other things). Sony says it's not because they lost the patent infringement lawsuit for using the technology in Ps2, it's because rumble is 'last gen' technology. The truth is, Sony couldn't stomach paying to use the rumble feature because Microsoft owns a large part of the company they will be paying.

I give up on Sony. You act as if the media publishers will never enforce this technology because it would piss off consumers. Did anyone here read any stories lately about Sony putting a rootkit on their music CD's? Damn people - don't be so foolish. The ICT will be enforced the MOMENT that someone hacks the encryption for the Blu-Ray discs. These companies are going to ferociously protect their product.
