DIY, Is high-def to much definition?
So there we were watching the Pistons playing like the good 'ol Pistons when my fiancee said something profound. "Look! You can see Dwyane Wades butt sweat." As much as I didn't want to see that, she was right. There it was and it really didn't add much to the game. But then they cut to a camera that showed Shaq's sweaty face. I mean it was dripping and boy did 720 progressive lines of resolution really make it pop out at ya. Gross. Is this really what is necessary anymore. Are we this conditioned to high-def that we need to see these details in order to keep our attention? Yup. Any high-def owner will agree that, yes we need it.
Am I right or am I right?

so you guys are based in detroit, huh?
can i get a job. i read the page 2934 times a day.
go stones.
Oh yeah, a lot of details.
Depends on the program though.
HDNet's bikini destination, I wouldn't mind the details. And why would HDNet have programs about vegas dancers but cut the good parts off!
Yes, Matt you are correct, we do need it.
What disappoints me is that basketball games only use the pressbox camera for about 90% of the game. When ESPN shows the highlights, they use a multitude of sideline and baseline shots. These are the camera angles that show great detail and player spacing. The major networks need to start producing games that use these camera angles during the live broadcast. The pressbox camera is pretty much a waste in HD.
Yes, we need to see the sweat. We need to smell it too. Smell-o-vision HD anyone? After that, feel and taste should not be far behind.
Sounds like your girl has a thing for Dwayne Wades butt. Better ban her from sports for a short time to get the point across. LOL
this is even truer in hd1080. basically old video shoot habits need to be replaced by HD habits , which means there is no longer a need for really close-up zoom-happy stuff anymore. ( i am learning this with my hd shoots, and paying a makeup artists to fix what i dont want to deal with later )
in 1080 you can easily count the stray nose hairs in a closeup. eyebags become stunningly detailed. Dirt and dust is everywhere.
This is not new, moviemakers deal with it all the time, its just the broadcast videographers & producers that need re-educating, it is a whole new world where you can actually read the sheetmusic in a zoom of a concert orchestra performer closeup, hit pause and try playing the bars yourself even, rewind and play along.
personally - i LOVE this, it is a whole new level of cool.
Is there "too much detail" when seeing movies in the theaters? Is 35mm just too much resolution?
Maybe we should all go back to 16mm flickers since 35mm just has too much detail. m i rite?
What would be nice is if the extra resolution was used when stats were being displayed. Where a SD broadcast can show maybe 20 lines of readable text on the screen, an HD broadcast can show significantly more, and could put it farther out to the sides.
I don't need massive closeup shots on my 55 inch screen, when I could just move closer to my screen. CSI Miami was scaring me recently, with closeups that were cutting the tops off peoples heads.
I think its the fault of the Heats jerseys. I noticed they get all kinds of fun sweat patterns on them.
At least we shouldn't have to look at those jerseys too much longer.
DEEEEEEE-TROOOIIT BAAAASKEET-BAAAAALLLL!
Your headline should use TOO, not TO, otherwise it makes no sense.
Butt sweat is nice when its coming off of a hottie on Bikini Destinations. :)
