Samsung is going to delay LED based DLPs
It looks like we jumped the gun a bit concerning Samsung"s highly anticipated LED based DLPs. They are going to be delayed till September. Originally they were going to ship this month but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. This has been floating around the net for a few weeks but we haven't had any good, solid confirmation 'till now. This really is to bad. These HDTVs are set to revitalize rear-projection sales. Flat-panels are all rage these days because of not only their better picture quality but longer life. LEDs changes that. Come on Sammy! Get these things out.

Although I could get several other different televisions, I am now going to just sit on the money until September to get the Samsung LED DLP HDTV instead.
While LED-based light source will be great provided they are using three colored LED panels and not a color wheel, I wonder if supplied of LED light engines are the hold up. Also, I am sure Samsung has thought this through thoroughly since by going LED-based for the light engine means longevity, something electronics manufacturers typically do not want. Hopefully this means the end to DLP rainbows experienced by some (me).
What are you basing the PQ improvement on? It seems like a reach to call this a definitive PQ improvement until you see it. Personally, I'm hoping LED and lasers can provide better PQ, longevity and the such, but I'll believe it when I see it. It takes a generation or two to get it right, and I'm not sure Samsung is there yet. I'm as ready to see the color-wheels go as anyone (just had to have my HLP's CW replaced for about $800), but until we see these with real-world sources in real-world lighting, I'll play wait-and-see.
It's still going to have RBE because it's a single chip DLP. I don't see using LED Panels instead of a color wheel to be a big advantage.
