Many
have complained after seeing the World Cup TV schedule that a significant number of the games are on ESPN2, which does broadcast in HD but most companies don't carry. Comcast has announced they will add ESPN2-HD in "several markets" tomorrow...but they didn't say which ones. So for all the
soccer futbol fans out there, you might be in luck...or you might not. If anyone can get ahold of the list of cities or areas where ESPN2-HD will be available or if other carriers will add the channel as well, please let us know in the comments.
If only Time Warner in Charlotte would do the same!
Woohooo!! I got it today (Baltimore, MD)
C'mon cablevision!!!

Channel 725 in the Bay Area!
Football, it's easy to spell, it's like American Football without "American" at the start
not soccer, not fubol, but FOOTBALL
it's the FIFA World Cup, the 2nd "F" stands for Football
Or due to the fact that the World Cup is in Germany he could have used Fußball.
but since it's and English invented game, it's Football
I agree, I'm English so of course it's Football, especially as the game is mostly played with feet, unlike the American "Football".
Now hopefully they won't remove ESPN2HD RIGHT after the World Cup. For the superbowl this year, they gave us NFLHD (and thank goodness, cos I go to see the beloved Steelers analyzed to death in all of HD glory), but Comcast removed THE DAY after the superbowl. Hopefully, they will bring it back in time for when the season starts. NFL - to us Americans, thats real football (since you english brought it up - who cares how often it touches your foot? if thats the arguement why "football" is better than "american football" i think you need to hone your debating skills. its still boring as heck, and the only reason to watch the world cup is because of the fun fans and the world stage, not the product on the field. and of course, now, because it will be in hd).
there was nothing about which is better, don;t know where you got that from. and how is a non-stop game more boring than one that is constantly stop-start so you can get your commercials in?
a game with highs scores doesn't mean it's more interesting than one with low scores
Football (the one that the whole world plays) has been around a LOT longer than the American version, hence the term "American Football", not just "Football"
1.5 billion viewers can't be wrong
Any word on Atlanta market?
253 Comcast Wash DC
Any news about TIME WARNER CABLE doing same? I am in Minneapolis but cannot get Comcast...Bummer!
Got it in Chattanooga, TN
I'm super stoked to be watching an SD broadcast of College of Charleston at Georgia Tech college baseball on ESPN HD instead of World Cup soccer!!! Thanks ESPN!!! Oh well, I'm sure once my small market of Manhattan grows a little bit, cable companies will start to carry ESPN 2 HD. Thanks Time Warner!!!
Nothing here in the Seattle area! Bah!
COMCAST has added ESPN2HD to the lineup in Atlanta. Channel 847
Nothing here in Nor Cal... :( Time to return the box!
Plainly put... read the first line on that page:
http://www.fifa.com/en/history/history/0,1283,4,00.html
And yes... football because you kick that ball with your feet... or do you wear your headgear around your ass?
Comcast in Nashville added it to channel 203 around 1 cst, or after the Germany game. Just glad to have it! How we need NFL Network!
Got it here outside of Hartford, CT. channel 203!
Comcast has it in S.FL!
Does anyone know if Seattle is getting ESPN2 in HD?
Eli,
I'm in Plano and we don't have ESPN2-HD. I called a rep and they didn't even ear anything about the press release. :-( Not gonna happen here, at least not in time for the WC.
richmond va has it!!!!!stumbled onto a world cup game on espn2 hd on friday..channel 253, one up from espn hd..i cant help but chime in on the american vs rest of the universe football topic..i first and foremost love american football the most, my saturdays in the fall are spent on a certain college campus cheering on my team along with 80,000 others..the basis of this top is all about what sport you have been disposed. mine is american football. the rest of the world plays their version of football..if i were born in Sao Paulo, i am sure soccer would be my choice..I will say that the comment about the commercials making american football boring is not valid..it is the difference in the set up or rules of the game that we find attractive..with world football it is just the feet. run run run and kick kick kick..american football incorporates more options along with a fierceness not seen in any other sport accept rugby..saying all that, watching a world cup game on hd brought new life to the game for me. hd will help football here in america. I only had one problem. I found myself wishing for a commercial so i could take a pee..Man, do those guys ever stop!!!!
Can't find ESPN2 HD in Bellingham, WA either. Hope comcast adds the channel to their WA offering soon. I can't stand those SD channels that are really worse than analog TV/channel.

When I was a little kid and they still used to air the latest episodes of Dallas on German TV, there was a documentary about the water utilities in Germany.
Supposedly, they had to up the water pressure two minutes before the end of the episodes, because everyone running to the bathrooms and flushing their businesses.
Now, whether this is still done the same way or been automated by now, I don't know. But from that point of view, generously putting halts on sporting events at will, seems a very practical approach on cutting those pressure spikes that some water pipes might not be able to handle.
Now, if we hear about busted water pipes all around the world after the wold cup final, we know why. ;-)
Time warner cable in Houston sucks. I called them up just to yell at them and waste their time. They probably didnt register my complaint, but it made me feel a little better.
Chicago gets ESPN2HD it on 203!
That's 18 HD channels. Yes.
Can't seem to find it in Seattle!!!!!!!!!!!! Bummer
We got it over the weekend here in Indianapolis.
Finally I can see the soccer ball on TV!

Comcast customer service said they got an internal email that said Southern California Comcast customers would not get ESPN2HD. They said they don't know when we will get it but most likely not in time for the World Cup.
Seems comcast started ESPN2HD service to Washington State earlier today. Now I can finally see all the games in HD! Hooray!! :) INHD2 is gone though. :(
Yep yep. Comcast added ESPN2 to their local service for Seattle, it's channel 174. Looks like INHD2 was removed. I'm also sad to see it go.
Comcast cable in Atlanta added ESPN2-HD on channel 847 on June 9th.
