Samsung: US LCD sales to rise 75% in '06
Samsung is expecting the US LCD market to explode this year - by 50 to 75%. We already know that LCDs are set to out sell CRTs in a few years so this might not be to far off base. They credit this to high-def gaming and HD DVD/Blu-ray. We think it is more along the lines of dropping prices and the increase in quality. Who doesn't want one of the nice, thin screens? A good amount of the videophiles that do the high-def gaming and movie watching already have a HDTV, but it is the Mom and Pop of America that is making the upgrade.Do you plan on buying a LCD this year. Many of you indicated that you already have.

I only got an HD LCD tv a little less than a month ago (Sharp 45" 1080p). I think it's a combination of all the above reasons for an all of a sudden faster adoption of HD sets in general.
I bought two LCDs this year. I got a great deal on the 37" Westinghouse in Jan which I'm going sell on eBay since I got a good deal on the 42" Westinghouse last week.
As prices drop and my parents are exposed to more HD programming in stores and at friends' homes, they've been more and more enticed. My mom isn't huge on this stuff, but she is coming around because of the amazing picture quality. My dad, on the other hand, seems to want to buy some sort of HDTV around January of next year unless he finds a good deal this year. He doesn't want anything too huge, so it'll probably be an LCD HDTV, but if I can somehow convince him that getting a 26 inch widescreen LCD is going to give us a typically smaller picture than our 27 inch CRT, then maybe we'd get a larger plasma. Doubtful, though.
I just bought a LN-S3251D on Saturday and I love it. I was worried about standard definition TV from ExpressVu but it looks absolutely amazing on this set. If anyone is looking to by an LCD I'd full heartedly endorse the latest models from Samsung. I still haven't seen one bit of ghosting/lag. And I'm definitly enjoying the Stanley Cup playoffs on my new flat panel. If anyone is hesitating on buying an LCD they don't have to wait any longer for the quality to increase. It's here.
Go Oilers!
HD will take time, we are probably 5 years away.

I know I'm going to pick up either an westy lvm 37 or 42 in the next month or so in preperation for the ps3/blu ray.
I already own a 34" Sony CRT and a 32" Sony XBR. I think the CRT kicks the pants off the XBR, but it's so freakin' huge. It takes 5 people to move the damn thing! Worse enough, I'm moving in a week or two and I don't know if I'll have room for The Beast.
So chances are, I will be picking up another LCD... but I'm not sure if I'll stick with Sony (I'm disappointed in their LCDs - where's the 1080p love?) or grab one of those appealing Westys. 42" 1080p would go nicely with that reserved PS3 I have.
...my wallet hates me.
I have a Panny 23" in my bedroom and my son has a 19" Dell LCD HDTV in his room. 52" Mits DLP RPTV in the living room.
