Universal brings out Vin Diesel's big guns via The Fast and The Furious on HD DVD

Say what you will but The Fast and The Furious was a huge hit. (I liked it) The car flick is one of Universal Studio's top franchises with the third installment in theaters now. With that in mind, this is a big HD DVD release for Universal when the orignal and the sequel, 2 Fast 2 Furious, races into stores on September 26. Both of the titles will feature 1080p and Dolby TrueHD. The Fast and the Furious's disc is going to have a high-def special feature of something with the name of "Picture in Picture Instant Access." We don't know exactly what that is, but we are willing to bet pink slips that it has something to do with picture in picture while you are watching the movie. Both titles are set to retail for $28.99.

hd dvd in 1080p..is this the first of its kind?
Haven't they all been in 1080p so far? It's just that the current hardware can't output it in 1080p.
Every single title release and announced on HD-DVD has been 1080P. That's 39 released movies and 72 announcements to date if you are counting.
It is only Bluray FUD that makes people think HD-DVD doesn't handle 1080P.
Neither player Samsung (Bluray) nor Toshiba (HD-DVD) outputs true 1080P output.
The Toshiba takes the 1080P24 on disk and interlaces it to 1080i60.
The Samsugn takes the 1080P24 on disk and interlaces it to 1080i60 then deinterlaces it to 1080P24. It is 1080P in marketing only.
