It has been a while since we have done one of these, but it is about time to start it back up again. Apple has been regularly adding high-def content to their
Movie Trailers site. These trailers are encoded in H.264 and can be displayed in 480p, 720p, or 1080p. The higher resolutions requires some good 'ol CPU horsepower but if you have it, use it. These trailers are simply stunning in HD. If you only have a few minutes to spare, the HDBeat team would recommend you watch the trailer for ether
Babel or
Children of Men. Both look like they are going to be great films and the trailers look amazing in high-def. If you have a few more minutes to kill, check out
The Prestige staring Christopher Bale of Batman Begins fame and then
American Hardcore's view of music in the eighties. Both are great. We are sorry to report though the new
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer is -- well, its a waste of bandwidth.
The trailers are 1080p not 1080i.
Also worth noting, the Pixar trailers look truly amazing in HD!
How can you say that the TMNT trailer is a waste of bandwidth!?
I can't see any video in the trailer. My settings are
Dell Dimension 4600 2.66GHz w/1GB RAM
QuickTime 7.1
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Graphics Card
H.264 codec
Am I missing anything? I can hear the trailer's audio but only get a white screen in the QT.
Pete... You can see any of the video trailers? Try a smaller trailer like the 480p version. If you see video then it may be that your computer does not have enough cpu power to display the video. If not even the 480p works then it could be that somehow you have a corrupted Quicktime and an un-install/re-install should clear it up.
Thanks WASD,
I should have specified that I can't view any HD trailers, even the 480p version, which I suppose does not qualify as true HD.
Anyway, I am able to view the non-HD trailers.
Seems incredible that 2.66Ghz is not enough CPU to view the HD trailer. I do see little vertical segments of blue or yellow that are thin adn about about 1" high instead of the actual HD trailer.
Hey Matt, that was "starring Christian Bale" not Christopher Nolan. CN was the director of BB, CB was the star. You're right - it does look like a good flick.
Oh, and drink! :)
Interesting... "The Prestige" reunites Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale and Michael Caine, all previously from Batman Begins...
Pete - I have the exact same setup as you GForce 5200 driver is the culprit. It is over 3 years old. The new 2006 driver from NVidia fixes the HD Quicktime trailer viewing problem. These trailers are awsome!! Here is the link for the latest driver:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_91.31.html
Go through the install and reboot and enjoy the HD trailers...
