Sony offering a fix to the A2000 resolution mess
Another week and another Sony controversy. This week is about how Sony's new A2000 SXRD line cannot display a full 1080i resolution over HDMI. Videophiles across the country must have been flooding Sony with calls and emails about this issue and Sony has listened to their pleas. CNET ran across this anomaly during their review and found it odd as 1080p HDTVs should be able to display 100% off a 1080i test pattern but this HDTV didn't. Apparently, Sony has tracked down the issue to a filter setting that was engaged that caused the test pattern to be fully displayed and they are going to offer a fix to the early-production models that are having this issue. The service fix isn't being offered yet, but according to the press release on CNET's site, there will be one. The best bet is to call Sony customer support and inquire when this fix is going to be offered and if they know if your particular A2000 is affected.

This just plain sucks. Sony knows there is a problem and even knows how to fix it (they already issued the fix to CNET), but the consumers don't get the fix yet and have no idea when the fix will be available (if ever). My (2nd) A2000 has this problem, and it is for sure going back, especially because I have seen newer model builds that don't have this issue. We're in the process of isolating July or newer build A2000 serial numbers at AVSForum so people can avoid the June builds (which appear to be the ones with the problems)if they want to avoid this "resolution mess". Check it out at: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=8251781#post8251781
Looked at mine and of course I have a June build (9000949).
How exactly can I tell if my set is affected?
Good to know as I was about to pull the trigger on the 60-inch version....think I might wait a tad bit longer...
Post #2:
Your set might have a "soft" look to it or it may not be able to fully display test patterns.
The only test pattern I have right now is the HDNET one. Will that work to test it?
They can fix it by swapping with a better brand.
Sony, ha ha Sony bahaha Sony Bwaha haha ha ah hahahaha !
Sony is funny, stupid, lame, sick, dead.
Ya'll are making a big deal over next to nothing. First, this is a 1080p set. It still offers 720p which is better than 1080i. Very few broadcasts are offered in 1080i and not in 720p. Even then most cable boxes have the option to turn off 1080i and use strictly 720p. And, who uses HDMI for a 1080i signal to begin with. And even CNET said it was not noticeable in normal viewing. I have a June build and never would have known about the glitch if a buddy had not sent me the link to CNET and AVS forum. I doubt that I ever would have used the HDMI port for a 1080i signal anyways. This T.V. is still amazing once you get the options set up correctly. Don't use CNET's suggestions but one of the reviewers on their site gave some good settup help that I only had to adjust a little to suit my viewing room.

Why didnt you just buy a 720P TV set then? Probably would have cost half a smuch for the EXACT same quality.
There is nothing wrong with the 1080p resolution. I didn't say that I watched everything in 720p or that I avoided the HDMI input alltogether. I only said, "Who uses HDMI for a 1080i signal anyway?"
Came across this today while doing a resarch on the Sony. Now i'm leaning towards my other choices, the Mitsubishi 65" DLP or the HP 65" MicroDisplay. They are a little bigger, but now sure how they compare quality wise to the Sony SXRD? Any thoughts?
Kwiq Niss care to share how you "tuned" your A2000? I'll be getting mine soon and will be setting it up in a medium light room.
