Amazon.com adds callcenter for TV buyers
Next time you're looking for advice on buying a new HDTV, Amazon wants you to consider their customer service department, targeted at people buying $1,000+ television sets. While we recommend actually looking at the displays you're considering and even hooking up your desired accessories if possible, if that isn't an option you may want to check this out. You can access the service by a button located on the page of certain TVs and have a representative call you. The service is headed up by a former employee of Best Buy's ministore Magnolia. Amazon is even looking to branch out into custom installation, it looks like retailers are certainly looking to take advantage of HDTV confusion by providing information. We certainly hope that information is a more accurate than pure sales hype, but that remains to be seen and besides, that 70-inch LCD would definitely fit through your doorway, no need to measure.

I ordered a 50" Panasonic plasma from Amazon a few days ago, and used the new call center. They picked up after only a couple rings, and were completely helpful. I didn't ask for much more than delivery & return questions, but it was clear the guy knew what he was talking about. The click-to-call service took about 1 second to ring my phone. Overall a good experience.
The main risk I see in ordering something like this through a channel like Amazon is that there's no returns. You have to unpack the display while the driver is still there and inspect it for damage. Once you sign, it's yours and you only have warranty service. Nonetheless their pricing is pretty aggressive, the delivery charges were waived, and I'm not paying sales tax (through them, anyway...I still "owe" it).
I agree with Josh. Amazon does offer terrific prices for some models sold directly by them {Not Marketplace} but the risk of no returns it's what's holding me back on a purchase of a Hitachi 42HDS69.
