I though Fiber Optic can't transfer as much bandwith as HDMI 3.0, thats why the next gen sound formats (DTS HD & Dolby True HD lossless) don't work over fiber optic or coax digi conects. Whats the deal? is this only for vid? Does it have enough bandwith to do 1080p and 7.1 lossless? and finally, Why doesn't someone make a HDMI to Cat-5 in an affordable range?
Currently optic fibre does 10Gbps HDMI 1.3 is 10.2Gbps
and I doubt anything actually uses all of the bandwidth available.
Something like this really needs to come out on the open market for us DIY'ers.
Fiber can go faster than 10G, but I imagine the product is using fairly standard multimode fiber and doesn't come close to 10G. If they needed more bandwidth they just would have to do some coarse wave multiplexing in this situation to quickly pass the 10.2Gbps that HDMI 1.3 can do.
