This Hitachi 42-inch 1080p plasma is
nothing new but that doesn't take away from the amazing technology. Big plasmas are a lot easier to convert up to the larger resolutions but small ones like this 42 is in a league of its own. It takes a lot of engineering pixie dust to get the plasma cells small enough to jam pack twice as many of 'em in the a given area. Hitachi did it though - kind of. The model on display was only a technology demo but they are planning on a 2-half '07 launch that we hope they hold true to.
Just to clarify, are you saying this plasma has a resolution of 1920x1080 or that it simply accepts a 1080p signal and then it gets down res'd to 720?
A-dog - This is a true 1080p plasma with a resolution of 1920x1080.
Weird that there have never been any "true" 720p 42" plasmas (they're all 1024x768), and now they skip right to 1080p.
