Sure we said
we wouldn't post about Fast and the Furious anymore until it came out but we just can't help ourselves. One minor detail released about this movie amongst all the hoopla at CEDIA 2006 was that not only will it
include advanced iHD HDi features, it will be the first movie to ship as a quad-layer combo disc. With a dual-layer HD DVD on one side and a dual-layer DVD on the other, this should enable HD DVD viewers to view extras without having to flip to the DVD side, as they did with previous 15/9 combo discs. In a good or bad sign, it still has a $39 MSRP in line with previous combo releases, so no price increase but it will still cost more than a standard HD DVD or Blu-ray disc. Univeral Studios Home Entertainment prez Craig Kornblau sounded positive about its prospects in reaching people outside the current
25,000 HD DVD-equipped households, but we're still not sure many people will bite given the price premium.
[Thanks, Tyler]
well, the price for this type of disc will be down soon, so we'll enjoy a GREAT quality in a not so far future! I'm VERY anxious about it :)
Finally. The HD-DVD/DVD combo thing was a major selling point for this new media.
Unfortunately, high prices (And crap movies) are keeping me from it still. I'll wait till they drop down to $15-20 before I buy into this.
The price is right in line with the Blu-ray prices for New releases. Old movies are cheaper on both HD DVD and Blu-ray, but $40 is about standard for a new release that was just out in theaters. Fox is the only one charging $40 for old discs.
This all pertains to MSRP, you can find HD DVD & Blu-ray discs much cheaper at retailers.
30/9 is all find & dand. Wheres the 30/30 or straight up 60? 9 is soo so-so. Man im a HD snob
First, I do like HD-DVD better than Blu-Ray. However, if HD-DVD movies cost less to produce; why are these movies just as expensive as Blu-Ray? One would think that HD-DVD titles would cost much less. I guess everyone wants to screw the consumer.
The price of the discs is close enough in production that you won't see a large difference in cost. Combo discs may get cheaper in the future but that depends on how many studios are pressing them.
