Discovery Atlas launched last night (on again tonight) but a few days ago 400 media and embassy professionals packed the The AFI Silver Theatre to enjoy a sneak peek of the first episode. The $65 million dollar series will take us viewers to more then 30 counties over the next few years and apparently Discovery feels very strongly about this program. The special gala the other night is reminiscent of a blockbuster movie premier with traffic stopping events and dignitaries; there was even Brazilian Carnival goers, Australian aborigines and masked Venetian revelers to entertain the attendants. In case you missed the programs premier on Sunday night, Discovery Atlas is on again tonight at 5 p.m. EST.
I watched the first hour and a half last night on an SDTV, on the regular channel, looked pretty amazing.
I caught it last nite on DiscoverHD (Canada) - the cinematography was breathtaking and original. The content was well presented and I'm glad they didn't go too indepth into the country's "problems" as most documentaries do.
That being said, they did take the path of showcasing the lives of persons living there, which wasn't so original; I personally hoped for a more broader scope of topics.
Hey Matt, it should be "more than 30," not "more then 30."
I caught the show via RCN HD cable in Boston. Content was good, though HD quality ranged from fair to good. It definitely wasn't "looking out the window HD" in most shots. I am a video purist [nut].
