Blu-ray supporters will be getting a shot in the arm next week when Click becomes the first Sony Pictures Home Entertainment movie released on 50GB dual-layer Blu-ray discs. We got tipped by an inside source at Sony to expect announcements tomorrow regarding
Click's release on October 10th -- with all the features of the standard DVD plus bonus HD features -- followed by Black Hawk Down November 14th and
Talladega Nights on December 12th. Black Hawk Down is said to include "Blu-wizard" technology that will allow viewers to customize how they see special scenes. The high-def DVD war
really begins in November, between the
Xbox 360 HD DVD player, Black Hawk Down &
Fox's Blu-ray Java releases plus a little something called the
Playstation 3, that magnetic strip on your credit card may be the first casualty.
no life till dual-layer blu-ray & 60 gigabit HD-DVD
Now if you can actually watch the entire moving w/o your player over heating ;)
This means nothing until someone other than Sony supports the 50GB format-- so we can compare between a dual layer HD DVD release vs a dual layer Blu-Ray release.
a2: Fox and Warner have both announced titles (including pricing and release dates) for 50GB discs.
Will it be MPEG-2?
What we should all be much more interested in is *HD extras". I can't recall any HD DVD title that has extra features in HD. I'm already imagining superb extras (better than some movies IMO) such as those in the 4-disc LOTR sets, the Matrix Collection, and of course all of the Star Wars discs.
The best news so far :)
I wonder if the games companies (sony in particular as they have both game and movies in the armoury) and movie companies have considered reducing costs by sharing a disc? Only as an option. When you buy the movie - you buy the game too. $50 for both on one disc. Half the shipping costs, half the advertising, half the duplication costs, maximise the use of the disc (noting todays announcement of 100gb discs by Panasonic).
