This ad is simple and gets the point across in a fun way; whereas the PS3 ad we all like to diss was absolutely retarded. The display must be HDCP complaint in order to avoid the possibility of having the content being downsampled to 960x540. That is the whole point between HDCP and Image COnstraint token. Every link in the chain will have to work with HDCP to pass encryped content like HD-DVD if they decide to implement it. Go read up some more before you start misleading people around here. Although I will say I wish XBOX still had HDMI output, as they always talk about how they are pro choice for gamers. The only thing you lose with no HDMI and the new formats is high res audio, this is not a big deal for most as most gamers dont have HDTV let alone a sound system where they will be able to tell the difference over the high quality dolby digital plus and the absolute best of Dolby trueHD.
I should also mention, we are all talking about blu ray vs HDDVD, what about games, what a disappointing launch for the PS3, the only games that spark any of my interest will also be on XBOX360, and how about xbox live, it is one of the greatest things microsoft has been able to accomplish since they got into the console business. Sony still has not sent specs on there network to game developers according to IGN.com.
I know some may see me as a xbox fan, but I dont even own one, nor plan to anytime soon, PC (if you have the money for $1000 vid cards and all the other good stuff) still puts any console to shame, and I cant wait for DirectX10.
Cheers

Juice

Comments on Xbox 360 HD DVD ad: 6x the resolution = 6x the...breakdancers?

Delirious, I think you missed the point.
Your LCD does not output 1080i at all.
And you can't switch an LCD screens resolution from 1080i to 720p. You can feed a DVI signal without HDCP to a display over HDMI and it'll work just fine, with no HDCP handshake problems."

And I'm 100% correct. The transmitter, like the HD-DVD drive or player or cable box may require HDCP. The display doesn't care.

Since the Xbox 360 doesn't have an HDCP/HDMI chips of software, if it spits out 1080p over VGA and you convert that to DVI, it will be DVI without HDCP, just like your computer sends out. If you then use a DVI->HDMI cable, it'll still be without HDCP. The display won't care, since it's just getting a clean, unencrypted digital signal.

Yes, if the ICT token goes on the VGA connection will suddenly no longer be able to do 960x540, but I wasn't addressing that.
