In general, I'd say a person probably shouldn't worry too much about HDMI 1.3 unless they already have $1,000+ invested in speakers for their home theater and can tell a CD from an MP3 with their eyes closed. True, with a good set of speakers or headphones, most people can hear the difference between 128 kb/s MP3 versus a CD and correctly identify which is which (without looking), but it is surprising how hard it is.
