HD DVD and Blu-ray released on October 17th 2006
While not as many movies released this week as last, Blu-ray has a couple mentionable titles like the classic Gattaca, Disney continues to disappoint with titles like Dark Water. With only 16 more HD DVD titles than Blu-ray this is the closest the title race as been. Although Blu-ray fans would love to have the hilarious day and date release of The Break-Up, more solid catalog titles from Sony aren't a bad thing. Fox titles are still almost a month out, things should get more interesting once all the studios are in play. This brings the total to HD DVD 91 vs Blu-ray 75.

Man I wouldn't mind seeing Gattaca in HD.
Gattaca and the Proffessionals have been delayed.

The HD DVD 30+ movie advantage is melting faster and faster! :D
Poor Universal cant keep with the rest 7 major movie stdios backing Blu-Ray :D

Universal doesnt have a movie in the 10 ten grossing so far this year; Break Up is their highest grossing movie ... thats not gonna be good come this holiday season.
Putter
Top 10 grossing movies are nice but they don't always represent the Top 10 DVD purchases. Frankly there are no real Blockbusters coming this year. No Cars no Dead Man's Chest etc. By years end we should see perhaps a slight Blu-Ray advantage in movies but nothing significant. New Line isn't delivering movies. Lionsgate is done for 2006 save for the BD50 The Descent.
Fine with me. I don't have a player yet but I'm stockpiling a few of my favorites that have excellent PQ. Next year we'll see some classics hitting with great interactivity. This stuff right now is just a trial run.
