The first combination HD DVD / Blu-ray media PC
So you've pondered the benefits of the two high-definition formats, HD DVD and Blu-ray, and you just can't make up your mind. AACS or AACS? 1080p or 1080p? Well forget building your own homebrew "combination" player or waiting for some manufacturer to build a combo laser or all-in-one disc, and head on over to your local specialty shop to pick up a VidaBox LUX or MAX, as the company has just announced a pair of upgraded combination HD DVD / Blu-ray systems with both formats inside! Having your cake and eating it too will cost you, though: $1629 over the regular $3499 price of the LUX and a grand total of $4399 for the MAX. Of course each version comes with the usual 1080p HDCP-capable outputs, dual analog and dual digital tuners, and up to 3TB of storage, but no word on whether they require two separate media player applications or not. So go hedge your bets, pick one of these bad boy media PCs up, and let us know how the two formats compare on the same hardware, will ya?

What a monster!
The Sexy Beast needs to be the Lethal Weapon in my AV Rack. It's a Mission Impossible losing the format battle with this product. Only those with a Braveheart should consider the pricing, don't expect costco to offer these Cheaper by the Dozen. What's encouraging is The Pledge that vidabox is making here. No format battle is going to drive you Psycho with this hardware. Even if one format dies you'll still have a Memento to cheris and reminisce over. I'm happier than 12 Monkey's in a banana factory.
I don't see the point to this at all! PC drives are available, right? Just get or hook up a PC with those two drives and the hardwaresoftware, and you're set. A system with a SOLID videocardcpumemory and the drives will be much cheaper than this, eh?
Sorry but it ain't that easy jack! I know cuz I tried :0)
It is going to have to be one format or the other because if you think HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are expensive now, think about how more expensive a dual player will be?
I still see Blu-Ray winning this war but I think it will take a few years of PS3 sales to be mainstream enough to knock out HD-DVD
I don't see Blu Ray winning, the hardware IS WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for J6P which you need in order to win. I can't say that HD-DVD will win either because i don't see a winner in this mess. I think both will duke it out, lose cash and someone else will develop the next best thing.
Massive and ridiculously expensive. I'll wait!
