There has been considerable speculation over when Twentieth Century Fox would put out one of its biggest recent titles on the Blu-ray format and it has finally answered that question. X-Men: The Last Stand is set for release November 14th, specifically timed to be on store shelves for the release of the
PlayStation 3 November 17th. Carrying an MSRP of $39.98, the film is authored in standard HDMV using MPEG-4 AVC compression and includes such extras as a 6.1 DTS ES HD Lossless Master Audio soundtrack, two commentary tracks, twelve deleted scenes and a Marvel Trivia Track enabling pop=up bits of information and comic panels referencing different information about the characters during the movie. Did we mention that all of the extras are high definition? With X-Men debuting at the same time as Fox's
previously announced first round of Blu-ray releases Fox has been very clear that its Blu-ray strategy is centered entirely around Sony's console, with or without
$100 HDMI cables gamers can look forward to some excellent releases that week.
I wish they would release X2; its a much better movie than that X3 farce.
Awesome! BTW, today's Digital Bits has a bunch of news on Fox and MGM Blu-ray titles:
January 23: Alien vs. Predator (1st HD title with seamless branching), Commando, Courage Under Fire, and Men of Honor
February 13: Planet of the Apes (2001), Broken Arrow, Entrapment, The Sentinel, Phone Booth, Chain Reaction, The Princess Bride, and The Usual Suspects
X3 bore the heck out of me.
I guess Sony can't but help hype Paul WS Anderson's crapfest of movies. AvP was one the biggest turd. It did such a disservice to the Alien and Predator franchise. Paul WS Anderson is on the same level as Uwe Boll.
It would be helpful if there were a few more Blu-ray DVD players for sale. Between Sony, Pioneer and others getting delayed, and PS3 short supply, Blu-ray just doesn't have much for hardware out there now.(and the of course the poor perfomance of Samsung player doesn't help either) Considering they have been talking up Blu-ray for several years it's amazing how many bugs they still have to work out. I still won't be surprised if HD-DVD wins the battle of the formats.
X3, AvP, Chain Reaction, The Sentinel, Entrapment, Planet of the Apes, Phone Booth - WOW! Can't wait to shell out $1500 for a player so I can watch all these great movies in hi-def - I mean, BEYOND hi-definition!
Laugh all you want at movies that don't meet your tastes, but what you like or don't like doesn't translate to sales.
For instance, X3 beat out King Kong (which I've seen described multiple times as a "killer title" for HD DVD) in domestic ticket sales, and in its 1 month on DVD, X3 has sold and rented almost as much copies as King King has in 7 months.
Fox/MGM release news is now also at HighDefDigest:

Awesome!
oh man I can't wait for my blu-ray player!!! so many great movies on Blu-ray format...
It's a shame more people don't have Blu-Ray. Not many are going to be able to enjoy X3, perhaps the weakest of the trilogy. That the release is being tied to the timefrace of the release of PS3 is somewhat interesting, in that the PS3 will be in very limited supply this year. And with all the Blu-Rays movies competing for attention, I wonder what consumers will choose. They're already going to have one movie for free. Consider that portion of PS3 purchasers may not have HDTVs, and the number of those purchasing Blu-Ray movies drops even further.
Regarding the mention of King Kong on HD DVD, although an interesting movie, it's not something I'd ever buy. The movie was just okay. But as a free pack in, I think it works. I'm sure it'll certainly look nice in HD.
wow!! are you serious $40 bucks for a damn movie!!! did they change the story line on X3 for blu-ray or is this the new movie called x-men4 if not then why buy it??? lets see $12.99 dvd or $39.99 blu-ray(hd) equals= same damm movie, same story line just different picture quality and added features, after your done with the movie it goes in with your collections and it collects dust..think people..if you can rent blu-ray or hd-dvd then go for it but dont buy when its the same movie with just better picture quality but hey dont let me stop you from buying a $1200+ blu-ray or $500+hd-dvd player and $3000+ 1080p hdtv i guess were all getting rich just dont be suckers..

This was easily one me the worst movies of the year. Speaking strictly about what a good movie needs it lacked a plot that required no prior knowledge. If you knew nothing about X-Men, you would be completely lost.
Since when did sales indicate a good product?
I never said sales indicated a good product. I was saying that what people claim as personal preference (as you do) doesn't translate to sales.
There are a lot of people that say because they liked a movie, and everybody in their echo chamber liked it, it must be a sure-fire blockbuster/format-killer. "King Kong" is one of those titles. Now, to you "X3" may have been "easily one [of] the worst movies of the year", but it did gangbusters in US theaters (better than "Kong") and DVD sales.
If you buy the PS3 from Wal-Mart you can buy X-men III for 50% off!

I actually enjoyed X3 then again; I'm not a die hard X-men fan. as far as the release, 40 bucks is a bit much. I don't even buy DVD's unless it's near the $10 mark.
I finally watched X-Men The Last Stand and I think it's the best one out of the 3 movies. X-Men The Last Stand was nominated for a People's Choice Award in two categories. It's up against The Da Vinci Code and Pirates of the Carribbean 2. Go vote at http://www.pcavote.com ! I already voted for X-Men since I work with the People's Choice Community. Who are you voting for?
