Blockbuster trialing HD DVD and Blu-ray rentals at brick & mortar locations
The video rental giant recently revealed it will off about 40 (each) Blu-ray and HD DVD titles for sale or rent at 250 of its locations. They're basing the rollout on customers that were early DVD adopters so good luck if you can find the discs at a store near you. Rental prices will be the same as standard DVDs, so if you're not already renting discs from Blockbuster Online or Netflix this should be a cheap way to check out those movies you've been missing...unless of course you're already downloading them directly to your Xbox 360. According to the article its good for retailers to remind customers that as they upgrade to HDTVs their local store will upgrade also, in the face of so much competition that would seem to be a very good idea. We've got so many options to get movies without leaving our houses or even couches, if a customer makes a trip to the store and they don't have something in stock, that might be the last time they bother going at all.[Via HDBlog]

C'mon internets, lemme know if any of the 40 are a Boulder, CO store.
If I'm not mistaken, you can also order these HiDef discs on line and return them to a location near you, maybe they'll keep them in stock for your neighbors.
They need to also rent the players, so consumers can try both formats and compare.
They need to also rent the players so customers can compare to see which format is better.
I was at blockbuster yesterday and they had 2 or 3 times as many Blu ray dvds in stock then they did of HD. if this is how the trend will be it could be bad for HD fans. So go to blockbuster and tell them you want HD not Blu!
Blockbuster is always behind everyone else.
I've been using a place in Chicago called the Video Strip on South Archer Ave.
Blockbuster over here doesn't even have anything. This place has both HD & Blu-Ray
I am currently one of only two Blu-Ray DVD customers but the owner has allowed me to pick the titles for the shop. He told me whatever I want he'd bring in. Can't beat that option. His selection of regular DVD titles are awesome, he even rents out box sets as one rental. No addtional charge.
Most of my Blu-Ray picks are upcoming titles but he's been good about getting them on release date. Just got Superman Returns on release date rented 3 DVDs for only 6.99 for 7 days. Thats a afternoon deal they do on weekdays (M-W). I can't complain about that option.
I just can't wait for Goodfellas!
