The Sopranos Season 6 hitting Blu-ray, HD DVD December 19th

We thought HBO and Warner might be up to something when they delayed the debut of The Sopranos Season 6: Part 1 from its original November launch date on HD DVD. We don't know if they were just waiting for the PlayStation 3, impressed by the improving quality of Blu-ray releases or what, but now the 4-disc, 12 episode boxed set is back and set to go on sale for both high definition formats December 19th. With a steep MSRP of $129.95 this could make an expensive Christmas gift for the well-connected HDTV owner in your life, but isn't The Family worth it?[Via MovieWeb]
that's awesome to see TV series' coming to the next-gen formats... but I can't wait for BAND OF BROTHERS to come in 1080p goodness
I'm truely excited to see televison shows popping up on HD-DVD/BRD and while I am a HUGE Soprano's fan I must admit I'm a little disappointed that they are releasing season 6.1 first. IMO it's the worst season of the six. Intially I can understand the logic behind releasing this first as it would have been a day and date release w/ the SD DVD set. Unfortunately I'm a completist when it comes to TV on DVD and won't touch season six until the first 5 seasons are relased (or at least announced). I am looking forward to future TV HD-DVD/BRD releases though (come on BSG!).

Umm, excuse me, but $130 for HALF a season of a show? What in the hell? I mean, HBO sets have always been expensive, but that's just silly. Man, they're going to be laughing all the way to the bank on this one.
