You can build your own Media Center PC... You just can't build a CableCARD comaptible one. But you can still get ATSC/QAM tuner cards and get whatever you can off your digital cable.
It's not a big deal because you don't have to buy discs that have the ICT bit set, yes they will be marked on the box. You also don't have to subscribe to digital cable. It is your choice and mine as well.
