I haven't seen any mention of it, but just last week KFMB (CBS) became the first local news to broadcast in HD in San Diego.

Too bad these guys are notorious for lousy picture quality and reception. Belo bought all their HD gear really really early and got 1080I stuff, but ABC broadcasts in 720P so they mess with the nationwide feed when they transmit it, and the results are about as great as TNT HD.

Too bad BELO (parent of wfaa) started charging all the cable providers in the area to rebroadcast so my provider (Charter) dropped WFAA HD from the lineup. But in all sincerity...news...in HD...why is this engadget worthy?

I have watched WFAA HD and can say that the picture looks fantastic. Their studio is also first-rate next to American Airline Center in Victory Park. Given that still most of their 40+ cameras are still Betacams, not all of the content is in HD but most is. If not the picture is usually pillar boxed although very rarely at least it appears to be 16x9 SD (ugly!) (not Stretch-o-vision). As far as national ABC footage on Belo; however, the picture does suffer from some slight TNT-itis. Bouncy faces.

WTVF in Nashville started All-HD newscasts after the Super Bowl as well -- including live field reporting, skycams, etc. Looks awesome.
