There is nothing like being at a baseball game. The sun beating down, the smells of hot dogs (and the dude sitting in front of you), the feel sitting on hard plastic for 4+ hours and the agony of paying eight bucks for a beer. However, there is something to be said about sitting on your comfy couch drinking low-cost (not cheap) beer in front of your HDTV. Thankfully high-def sporting events are commonplace these days but occasionally an SD game pops up. That isn't going to change for sometime but at least for Mariner's fans, all of their home games are going to be in HD this season thanks to FSN Northwest. This is all going to start with the April 2nd game against the Oakland A's and can be found on channel 664 - that is if you live in the Northwest and subscribe to Comcast. Now maybe Seattle residents can convince their significant other of all the money they would save by purchasing and HDTV rather then spend money on the tickets, parking, gas, beer, peanuts, hot dogs, and more beer. Gosh, add all that up right there and you must be able to get an HDTV with just that.
There have been HD camera's in Safeco field for many years now. The team is owned by the Japaneese and the games are broadcast in Japan in HD. A few years ago there were a few games here and there in HD and then nothing for the last few years. Hopefully this is true and Comcast won't try something slick like charge us money for this.
Time will tell.
In the NYC market, ever since YES took over the broadcast of the Yankees, the broadcast has been in HD for ever single home game, as well as away games against the mets and sox. Also, a select group of away games were in HD, and all other games are in ED (whatever difference that makes).
Nice! It's too bad I haven't got to watch a Mariners game since I moved to Chicago. Maybe if they make the playoffs this year ... *Sigh*
Detroit Tigers games will be in HD this year as well, and last year they had maybe 10% of the home games in HD. It's great.
This would be great, if only I could get comcast. Most of downtown Seattle has a deal with Millenium (Awful, awful cable company).
You guys are lucky. Here in Baltimore there's a new network (owned by the Orioles) called MASN which is analagous to the YES network in New York. Unfortunately, even though Comcast had been broadcasting the Orioles home games in HDTV for the past several years, now that MASN is in charge they're not broadcasting any games in HDTV. What a bunch of losers, boooooooooo.
Ugh, I am watching the first game right now, Joe, and it looks like absolute horse [crap] on this samsung dlp hdtv I am watching it on.
God, I hate Peter Angelos. More than I hate Comcast. Comcast has had HD for several years! Glargh.
