California residents: thinking about "Ditching the Dish?" Verizon's massive
FiOS plans for your state just might get the magic of fiber optics to your house sooner than you thought. As of today, the service is now available to an additional 129,000 homes in 12 cities bringing the total available statewide to 350,000. Even if your front yard hasn't been torn up lately to lay new lines, that doesn't mean crews won't be coming to your home as their plans include reaching 150,000 more potential subscribers by year end. With cable being so 1990'ish and satellite throwing back memories of 2001, fiber optic is, well, cool like 2011. Low prices, high speed 'net access,
widgets, and 25+ HD stations -
nice.
Verizon PLEASE bring Fios to Upper Mahattan New York City already!!
So lame, Verizon brought FIOS to every city around me but mine. So so so lame.
Seeing how the world thinks the Southeast is mostly made up of "hicks", I'll just have to wait and see if PowerLine makes a breakthrough. There are PowerLine modems being sold at the Staples up in town, but I haven't heard of the service reaching here yet.
1 channel at a time and slow channel changing? No thanks.

Pretty much the same as Comcast right now. They are adding Nat.Geo and CW-HD and 1 other in the next couple of months too...
FIOS is cheaper, I pay about $85/mo for cable, but then again I have two HDTV boxes, including a 3-tuner DVR (impossible with 1-channel FIOS).
I wish VZ would come up to the Sacramento area. Anyone know where they are talking about now? SoCal?
Verizon installed fiber in my neighborhood somewhere between six months and a year ago. They had the FiOS Hummer parked in my neighborhood (illegally) and they put FiOS flyers on everybody’s doors, but I cannot get FiOS for some reason. Verizon says it’s not available in my area. Strange.
It still doesn't have Sunday Ticket...
Just ordered FiOS here in Huntington Beach, on Friday night with a 4/9 install date. To correct the other posting, FiOS Moto DVR is dual-tuner, with multi-room playback capabilities and 27 HD channels in the Orange County service area. Plus, all digital channels, even in SD, and best of all, near OTA quality HD, as the compression ratio on FiOS is 1.5 or 2 to 1, unlike 5 to 1 or more on Cablevision, or Time Warner. I can't wait for the Dodgers and Vin Scully in HD and 5.1!
I have Charter cable. Who cares about TV quality or channels? I just want a working service with internet. I get all my TV ota anyway.
FIOS is available on the street adjacent to our neighborhood. Is it available on our street? NO. That leaves me with either cable or satellite. That's OK, Verizon couldn't run their phone biz properly, why would this be any different?
Bite me Verizon.
