Giants show off eco-friendly HD mega-scoreboard

These HD mega-scoreboards are becoming commonplace, but who cares! They're still sweet. Next up is San Fransisco Giants and their 3 million dollar 31 1/2 feet high by 103 feet wide screen made by Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Vision - same peeps that did up the HD screen at that horse track in Japan BTW. Plus, in good 'ol San Fransisco style, this scoreboard is comprised of 3 million low power LEDs and the stadium's power consumption is supplemented by hundreds of solar panels. There are hundreds of flat panels scattered around the park, plus more are going in the dugout seating section making this one high-def loving stadium.

So that's what all my $9 beers have been paying for.
Eco-friendly? Not really. It's still a whopping megaconsumeristic excess surrounded and paid for by ads promoting yet more consumerism. (Remember when you went to a ball game to watch the ball game, not the TV?)
Calling it eco-friendly just because it's solar powered is like calling Al Capone a saint because he tips well.
It was added to enhance the environment inside the stadium. I think it's a great addition and another good reason to go out and visit the Giants ballpark. By the way, they are still playing the ballgame right in front of you, so you still get to see the game live and in person.
It's a nice wow-factor, just like the giant Coke bottle. But I have mixed feelings about taking my kids to the ballpark where I know they'll get too distracted by giant Coke bottles and hi-def screens to notice the live game...
