I wont spend a cent on it until one comes out on top and is adopted and the other bails. I am not sure if I represent a large percentage, but I dont buy movies anymore either. I used to buy movies every tuesday until the HD formats came out. And I wont.

Maybe I'm naive).

And Ben, you do realize that Sony paying for the "research" means that Sony will come out looking good, regardless of the truth, right? Microsoft was/is NOTORIOUS for doing this - paying small research companies to give them positive press. It's business 101 really.

The Casino Royale numbers are especially slanted. Sony has been touting this as the "must own" movie for quite awhile (heck, they even advertised BD in the movie itself!) Talk on many forums are that they're doing "funny math," counting the free copies that were given away with the PS3 and things like that. It's highly suspicious that they'd have THAT many sold compared to even the next highest BD disk. Someone's cooking the books to make themselves look better there.

At least your readers are smart enough to see the spin in the article. :)

Also, the article clearly states that the numbers are not all-inclusive -- missing "some online merchants," as well as Wal-Mart. What online stores are those? Important information to note.

In the "real world," HD DVD movies (and I believe BD as well) are between $19.99 and $27.99 before sales, coupons, etc (lots of people get an automatic 10% off at Amazon.com because of a deal they had last year, for example).

Still more than regular DVDs, but nowhere near the MSRP :)

I guess that means you are a "Blu-Ray fanboy"? I hope you are enjoying your outdated Blu-Ray player since it is not final spec and will not support final spec :) Once movies using the final spec come out. You will not be able to play the titles with all of the new features (BD-JAVA) thanks to Sony rushing to get Blu-Ray out the door because HD-DVD had a head start and if they waited until final spec to release Blu-Ray then HD-DVD would have be entrenched too deep and Blu-Ray would have never been able to catch up.

I got the PS3, and i play games in 1080p on Blu-ray, i dont think it will become obsolete soon :D Sorry to disappoint you about that.
