Hell I'd even say it could happen before August. Toshiba is testing the market to see if $100 off, and the magic $299 price truely will increase sales by a significant number. Personally I think it will, especially for Father's Day. A lot of new middle class families got HDTVs for Christmas last year and now there is a cheap (IN-store) option to get HD Movies.

Definitely something I would get for my father.

P.S. I realize that Amazon has HD DVD players for about $320 but even then a lot of families don't like to wait, and much prefer to goto the store to buy something. I think for the non-techie, non-diehards... price is the most important selling point! You can talk details, studios, etc... but if I can't afford the thing... I won't buy it. The sales of disks are probably higher on the Blu-ray side, because the people can afford to buy anything that comes out. Early adopters aside.
