Samsung announces 71, 81 series 1080p LCD HDTVs

The 81 series ups the ante with an LED backlight, bumping the contrast ratio to a measly 100,000:1, and also comes with 10-bit processing, 8ms response time, an ATSC / clear QAM tuner, CEC HDMI, USB, and also lands in August in 40, 46, 52, and 57-inch sizes( for $3000, $4000, $5000, and $7000, respectively).

It's great to see the 81 series isn't too astronomically priced.
yeah, this is the Display I have been waiting to get a look at before making a move to finally get a HDTV, I had heard they were pushing them back til October, but August is all the better. :)
FINALLY. I can FINALLY BUY AN HDTV. Been waiting for this one since it was announced at CES. The wait is almost over. Happy to see 46
81 at $4000. This means I should be able to nab it for around $3000 come late september when I plan to buy.
Does anyone know what the European version of the 81 Series will be called?
Good to hear the 81 is actually on it's way. All the better for me because my equipment cycle says I'd look at an upgrade next summer; a second generation LED based Sammie for winter 08-09 sounds just about right.
They sound great. I wonder how the new Sony BRAVIA XBR4 will compare to these?
Why is this information not available on Samsungs Site?
Well I just brought a 46" 71 series home tonight. Saw it up at the store and was pretty amazing. We'll see how it looks at my house. Gonna set it up in a couple of days so I'll let you know.
