What steaming locomotive? Blu-ray discs have been outselling HD DVD fairly steadily for months, at about 2:1 ratio, or 2/3 of the market. And most of this years major blockbusters are from studios that release Blu-ray, and they'll be hitting shelves this fall.
Even with massive price cuts, HD DVD is getting whipped. And the price drop on the PS3 will probably help with that too - my PS3 arrived today, the primary use is for Blu-ray. And I'm getting six free BD movies to go with it. :-)
Due to the massive dump of a million PS3 in dec and jan BD out sold HD DVD in disc sales by more then 2 to 1 in the 1st quarter but as the year has gone on and more HD DVD players have sold weekly at increasing pace the the difference in blu disc sales and HD DVD sales has narrowed.
This data is from the avs forums of the nielsen data see how bd was close to 70/30 and even more then 80% one week at start of year (due to PS3 debue)..but as more HD DVD players hits the market the sales gap gets smaller.
