LG's 2nd gen Super Multi Blue Blu-ray / HD DVD hybrid drives and plans

Also in LG hybrid high def disc news, the company is offering 10 HD movies on either Blu-ray or HD DVD for free when you snag a $1,200 Super Blu BH100, but only until July 21st -- that'd be this Saturday. Also of note, LG says we should "stay tuned" for a followup to said BH100, but it isn't prepared to announce further details. Bummer.

This is great news! IIRC these new drives are less than half the price of their bare drive used in their current Universal player. This likely means that $400 drive should be able to deliver a Universal player for $600 that records standard DVD-R/DVD+R Damn cool
This is really starting to prove that in the future almost all drives will be able to read both formats. It should really make people on both sides feel confidant that their collection will work fine with future generations of hardware.
All players will be dual format in a year or two.
What about HDi and BD-J support?
i just bought a top of the line dvd burner yesterday for $35. I shiver at the thought of purchasing these, knowing full well that in 2 years time, they will also cost $35 (at least less then $99)
Its does support HDi and BD-J IF... like I said, IF you've the software that support, like POWER DVD Ultra, the 100 bucks software from cyberlink website... yes you can play HDi and BD-J on that driver, I'm gonna get the 400 bucks one, just wanna watch movies and not burn.
$400 is a damn good deal for a drive that can play both formats. Once these dual format drives drop to $300 I might buy one and give my HD-A2 to my dad. I'm an HD DVD supporter but it would be nice to not have to worry about exclusives. I could just rent/buy whatever I wanted.
