Xbox 360 HD DVD player now just $179
The already nicely priced Xbox 360 HD DVD player just got slashed to $179. The new US-only, retail pricing also includes 5 free HD DVD flicks when purchasing the player between August 1st and September 30th -- you know, the same time period 300 and Heroes goes on sale in HD DVD format. Unfortunately, the free titles must be made from a selection of just 15 pre-selected films which Toshiba considers "popular." Nevertheless, the $20 price cut makes the Xbox 360 HD DVD player all the more enticing as an easily hacked, USB-player for HD flicks on your PC.Update: Xbox 360 owners will be getting downloadable treats to promote the add-on, Microsoft announced that the movie 300 will be available on Xbox Live Video Marketplace in HD starting August 14th. In a repeat of the South Park promotion earlier this year, the first episode of Heroes will be made available for free prior to the release of the boxed set on HD DVD for a limited time.

Now I just have to find a cheapest way to import it from the US.

Please tell me that this is at all stores...the $20 price cut and the 5 free HD DVD's. I need to know, because I was planning on buying one in that time span, and this seems to be my sign.
This actually makes me want to buy one. Any links on what the 15 movies to choose from are?
Heres the list:

Although I dont get the free movies deal, I just picked up my HD DVD player from Sam's Club for $120.00, only select Sams has them on sale so call before you go. I love it, ive had an HDTV for a 1 month or so, so it was awsome wathing a full HD move on it. It was crisp and clear.
Just so you guys know, all I had to do was plug my Xbox 360 HD-DVD player into my Vista Home Premium HTPC and it installed the drivers right away. My video card and TV are HDCP compliant so I have no worries there. Anyone without HDCP can just get AnyDVD HD and watch HD-DVD anywhere.
I was just on Joystiq, they have about the same article...only they have a link to the movies. Not the best choices, but hey, it's five free.
These movies are slightly better than the selection offered by Blu-Ray.
They are much better than what blu-ray offers. Not that this is saying much. The BD "deal" hasn't got 5 movies I'd watch without being paid for my time.
Come on Heroes, Save the HD-DVD.
I believe the drive still comes with a free movie as well. So if you factor in 6 movies at 20 bucks each then your getting a HD-DVD player (360 or pc) for 60 bucks. Can't beat that!
That's about $60 away from a good deal. Seriously... $179 for a DRIVE?
When that is the bulk of any device cost how is that bad?
Dangit and I jumped at Best Buy's two free HD DVD's deal earlier this month. Oh well at least I could pick any two I wanted.
At least I can still take comfort in knowing that I picked the winning format.
Ha.
eh, I have nothing better to do now... heres the list.
NOTE: You can pick ONE movie from each tier.
Apollo 13
Seabiscuit
The Chronicles of Riddick
Casablanca
Constantine
Dukes of Hazzard
Four Brothers
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
The Rundown
Blazing Saddles
U2: Rattle and Hum
U-571
The Perfect Storm
We Were Soldiers
Throw in the movie 300 or a different movie you want and use the $40 off $200 at CC and make the deal even better.
HD add on and 7 movies for about $139 (if you get a box with kng kong in it.
I might get this for my XBOX 360 and i don't even have my HDTV yet..though I hope to this Christmas.
