Although it seems like
U-Verse rollouts are becoming entirely more common these days, the folks that call Oklahoma City home have yet to get a taste -- until now, that is. As of Monday, parts of Oklahoma City, Edmond, Moore, and Norman, were able to sign up for AT&T's IPTV-based services, and the carrier has wasted no time trying to eat away at
Cox's (and
DirecTV's) market share. Reportedly, AT&T is claiming that the 26 available HD channels it offers trumps Cox's lineup of 19, and the marketing spin proclaims U-Verse to simply be "cooler than cable." So for you Sooners (or misdirected Cowboys) out there, do let us know how U-Verse measures up if any of you manage to make the switch, capiche?
Well I am not in OKC but I am in Houston and had Uverse for six weeks. Big Mistake. I was with Dish Network prior to trialing Uverse an recently switched back. Here is the list of problems.
1. The Picture quality for HD is terrible compared to other providers. You will notice it right away.
2. The DVR is garbage. Its extremely slow in reposnse time and very hard to manuvere around in. ( this was the biggest pain of all)
3. Only one HD stream so you can not record a show in HD and watch another at the same time.
4. Volume issues and does not have capability to pick up Dolby Digital surrond
5. Boxes will freeze up occasionally which is not a big deal but its takes a long time to boot everything back up.
Those were the biggest problems for me anyway. I do think IPTV will be great once the get all the kinks fixed in 2 years but its to much of a hassle right now. I will say there are some positives.
The Channel line up is great, ON Demand is really good and getting better, Price is excellent and the wireless home set up with ultra fast internet is nice also. I had no problems on that end.
Boomer Sooner!
Shout out from OKC!
Though I doubt I'll be switching to U-Verse anytime soon.
I just had ATT Uverse Cancelled! What a piece of crap!
Here are some of the highlights to my experience.
The interface takes forever to search for channels or just to browse through them.
The DVR feature is not very user friendly.
The highlight to my experience was that since the service was installed with a 2wire gateway my ssh outbound traffic stopped working. I know not everyone uses ssh but I can tell you that the interface on the 2wire gateway is horrible. They have gone dumb on us but at the same time they restrict very basic features.
I called technical support, one hour on the phone later after dealing with a number of people that didn't know what they were doing. Including "tier 2" support. Of course the number two refers to the second one from the left on the evolutionary scale.
They finally concluded that they needed to send me to support plus and I started to have hope that was immediately crushed by them telling me that this is fee based and they needed my credit card to talk to them. I don't thinks so caveman!
As a result, I just cancelled this crappy service and I'm going back to paying a little more for cable. Let's do the numbers I bill at 250/hr, I spent an hour on the phone with them and I can't do work from home. Cheap decision to pay more for time warner.
Yep, I've got uverse in San Antonio, TX. I'm unimpressed with it. Satellite is far better. For all the same reasons as Eric's post.
1. DVR interface blows.
2. Picture quality blows.
3. Remote turns off my tv as well as the DVR.
Now I know that's a small thing, but Damnit, I don't want the TV off unless I tell the TV to turn off....
Yeah I think I'll be killing off uverse in a week or so. Got the free 30-day trial thingy.
I on the other hand have had none of these issues mentioned above. I was happy to drop COX as soon as possible due to the lack of customer service and the constant outages in our area. I was getting re occuring charges on my bill for random amounts and fees that were refunded as soon as I called. Imagine all the money being made from people that dont call in.
As for the service. My lines were "re conditioned" at the beginning of this month and my HD service has never looked better. I had a slight fuzz in the picture before hand, but once the technican corrected my lines it cleared up. The thing you have to realize is that AT&T is pushing this service over lines that have been in the ground for quite some time. It will take a while to get the system running perfectly, but when it does its amazing. The DVR system works great, I love the Video On Demand, and the 320+ channels is more than my share of useless video.
As for the internet I love the speeds compared to the 6MB (or lack thereof) with COX Cable. Nothing is worse the sharing your bandwidth with 300 or so of your neighbors in your apartments. I am now humming along on a dedicated 6Mb/s line and can definatley see the 1Mb/s increase in upstream while playing online games. Once the VoIp service is available in my area Im sure it will be even better.
Bottom line- If you have an issue with quality, contact AT&T, they were more than helpful with correcting my line issues and I hope COX dies in a firery crash
