Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 coming to HD DVD
If you were amped up to find that Star Trek: The Original Series was headed to HD DVD, this tidbit could result in copious amounts of celebrating. Universal Studios has just announced that it will be bringing the complete first season of Battlestar Galactica to HD DVD this winter "in one elaborate box set." Reportedly, the set will be "presented in 1.78:1 widescreen anamorphic video and include a pair of audio options: Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1." Additionally, the package will be brimming with extras including a "picture-in-picture video commentary on the entire mini-series, more than a half-dozen featurettes, multiple deleted scenes," and the tantalizing "Encyclopedia Galactica." Mark your calendars, folks, as the set is slated to land on December 4th for $99.98.[Via HighDefDigest]

w00t!
Cool, that joins "Serenity" as a title I am jealous the other camp has. And unlike the Star Trek set, that is within a reasonable price for purchase.
...if you have an HD DVD player.
Wow, I was just getting ready to buy this on DVD. Good stuff.
I think it's a little expensive, but then, that's list price, not street price. The other TV series I've seen sold in HD go for the same price. The S1 DVD lists for $59.99, so it's 2/3rds more expensive.
Maybe I'll buy the A3 or whatever and Netflix it.
$99 ain't nuffin'.
Try buying the Star Trek VHS tapes in the 90's...mucho $$$...
this
frackin
rules.
Now if they could get The Office out I'd be content.
As "The Office" is an NBC Universal produiction, you do stand a decent chance of that happening. Certainly more so than if it was produced by another production company.
Only Disney seems keen to get Lost out on Blu-ray.
@Alex
Totally with you man. I'll be in line right with you when they announce the office in HD. It's about time these studios started to release shows in HD DVD. With Star Trek and BG, they can go for a good amount of people. Throw in The Office and other shows, and they could potentially put a dent in Blu Ray, at least for a while. Everyone keeps talking about DVD player sales. The player sales don't mean anything if people aren't buying the DVDs to go along with them. I think this will help increase sales!
Take that, Blu-Ray! Kiss my HD-DVD loving ASS!
I'd probably by BSG - on Blu-ray. But I'm not going to invest in an HD DVD deck just for Universal's releases. I'm content to wait - a couple of years from now, if HD DVD isn't long dead, then I'll probably invest in it. For now Universal doesn't get my money - I expect them to go dual-format in 2008, and then they'll earn my money.
I could afford to add HD DVD to my setup - but it just isn't worth it to me just to get Universal's content. They have a few things I like, but not enough to justify investing in another format. I'm convinced HD DVD is going to die in 2008 - if I'm wrong, then I'll consider spending money on it.
Good ol' Universal, the LITTLE studio that could, producing MINOR sci-fi shows like BG and Heroes that NO ONE in their right mind could POSSIBLY care about (since the format is virtually DEFUNCT and being outsold 2 to 1 by "The Others") on HD DVD. They certainly deserve an "E" for effort, God bless them...
HD DVD is dead! Long live HD DVD!! (Smirks sarcastically, like Tony Almeida or Chloe on "24")
Ahh, a troll shows up. Thanks for the laughs, Paul Fernandez.

Paul is upset Dancing with the Stars and Laguna Hills aren't on BluRay yet.
"Heroes" will truly be a much more mainstream title than BSG will be. The release of Season One is totally going to blow the roof off of sales (assuming we get halfway decent sell through pricing, of course).
I'm already starting to froth at the mouth at the thought of it...
"Save the Cheerleader, Save the Format..."
Paul is still waiting on "watch the toilet flush" on blu-ray
Hey Christopher and Alex, you've got it all wrong, my friends. My entire post, and especially the last line, should have tipped you off that I'm PRO HD DVD! This is all fun for me anyway (I'm no troll), but I WILL say that I don't think one format is superior yo yhe other. Just watched Ultraviolet on a friend's Blu-ray setup and thought it was amazing (the visual quality, NOT the movie itself). However, he thought Serenity was equally amazing on HD DVD, so let's just say we BOTH feel like we made the right choice, with about 50 movies and counting between us.
And neither one of us feels like we'll miss out on anything, so there you go. And Alex, you're wrong; I'm upset that Krull, Ishtar, and Hudson Hawk aren't on HD DVD yet. : )
Anamorphic? Why in the world would they be making it anamorphic? That's really quite crappy.
I'm not crazy about the format war, so I have both players just in case.
It's more about content for me, I want Heroes on HD DVD, but I also want Lost on Blu Ray.
Sometimes one side has a better bargain/extras for the same title, 300 was just one-sided with all the extras on HD DVD instead Blu Ray.
Whichever side "loses", I will hopefully be able to get those titles cheaper. :)

Awesome.
There is no such as anamorphic for HD-DVD or bluray. They are 16x9 native. SD-DVDs can be anamorphic because they are made for 4x3 TVs with the stretch option for widescreen TVs.
